Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis Wreak Havoc in 25-11 Win Over Bucs
At one point, Jalen Carter was considered the best player in the 2022 NFL, and a surefire 1st overall pick. Some very dumb off-the-field decisions, and a tragic car crash, caused him to fall in the draft. He was in the spotlight for all of the wrong reasons. But tonight, he was in that spotlight for the right reasons. On Monday Night Football, in front of the nation, he played as good of a game as a DT tackle can play. The same can be said about his former Georgia teammate Jordan Davis. That duo of Defensive Tackles wreaked havoc on the Bucs all night long, helping lift the Eagles to a 25-11 win over the Buccaneers.
The play of the night came when Carter caught Rachaad White from behind to force a fumble. White caught a short pass, but Carter hustled from the line of scrimmage, to punch the ball out. It came at the end of the first half after a Jalen Hurts interception and set the Eagles up for a field goal to close out the half.
Jordan Davis also came up with a huge play. In the second half, with the Bucs backed up into their own endzone, Jordan Davis blew up the middle of the line. He did not get the tackles that forced the Safety, but make no mistake, he was the reason the Eagles got a Safety. White had to bounce outside to avoid Davis and Nicholas Morrow made the play.
There was so much talk about how the Eagles’ D-Line would look after Javon Hargrave left in Free Agency. So far this season, it is somehow an improvement. Jalen Carter is constantly pressuring the QB, and Jordan Davis blows up nearly every run up the middle. They are already making for an elite DT duo, and one is a rookie while the other is in their second year. The Eagles have at least four more years of this.
The Eagles offense did what it did last week. Ran all over the place, and looked a bit better passing it. Hurts threw two picks, but one was on a crazy play by the DBV, and the other looked like the receiver ran the wrong route. There is still a lot of room for his play, and Brian Johnson’s playcalling, to improve. But despite them being slow out of the gates, the Eagles are 3-0. And the passing game has looked better every single week. AJ Brown finally got going, as did Dallas Goedert.
As long as the Eagles’ O-Line and D’Andre Swift play like this, they don’t need to throw the ball that much. Mind you, they did this against what many were calling the best run defense in the league before the game.
But despite how well the O-Line and Swift played, the players of the game were Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. They are playing at a crazy high level right now, and it showed in how well the defense played vs. the Bucs tonight.
