Phillies at Rockies: J.T. Realmuto exits game early with sprained right pinkie finger
Phillies All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto left Friday nights game against the Rockies at Coors Field for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning after apparently injuring his right (throwing) hand two innings earlier when he slid headfirst into third.
A few minutes later it was announced at the stadium that Realmuto left the game with a sprained right pinkie finger.
With two outs in the fifth, Rockies starter Austin Gomber had retired the first 14 Phillies hitters hed faced. Realmuto spoiled the perfect game bid with a double. And when the throw to the infield appeared to roll free, Realmuto decided to try for third. Not only was he thrown out, but was obviously in pain as he walked back to the dugout.
It appeared that Garrett Stubbs was prepared to come into the game at that point, but Realmuto was able to catch two more innings before Stubbs hit for him in the seventh.
