Flyers trade Isaac Ratcliffe to Predators for future considerations
Late Sunday night, the Flyers made their first trade ahead of Friday’s 3 p.m. ET deadline.
General manager Chuck Fletcher dealt 24-year-old prospect Isaac Ratcliffe to the Predators in exchange for future considerations.
Ratcliffe is a 6-foot-6 winger the Flyers selected in the second round of the 2017 draft. He was drafted by the Flyers’ previous regime of Ron Hextall and Chris Pryor.
The Phantoms’ forward had not appeared in a game for the Flyers this season after making his NHL debut and playing 10 games for the big club last season. Ratcliffe made a solid first impression during his audition last season, putting up a goal, three assists, a minus-1 mark, 14 shots, 16 hits and eight blocked shots in 10:45 minutes per game.
He played mostly on the fourth line and saw one game on the first line. As a restricted free agent last offseason, he signed a one-year, two-way, $813,750 contract.
With AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley this season, Ratcliffe had two goals and two assists in 26 games.
In his final year of junior hockey (2018-19), Ratcliffe had a 50-goal season for the OHL’s Guelph Storm.
“You come to this level, you’re playing against men, so you need to find your man’s game,” Phantoms head coach Ian Laperriere said in September. “Being physical on the forecheck with a good stick. He’s 6-foot-6, he’s a big man, he’s got a long reach, use it. He needs to be strong on his feet. I felt like by the end of the year last year, he was that man that everybody was hoping, that he was going in that direction.”
