Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- The Eagles are Back in the Super Bowl
The Eagles are back in the Super Bowl, and Anthony Gargano reacted in his Opening Diatribe this morning…
“What an amazing time yesterday at Lincoln Financial Field, before the greatest fans in the world. The Eagles are going back to the Super Bowl! Let’s discuss this in 3 prongs.
First, let us pay tribute to the players. Led by Haason reddick. From Camden NJ… He is the beast of all beasts. He led the defense in what was the Body Bag Game 2.0. Who would have thought that in an NFC Championship game against the Vaunted Niners’ defense, it would be the Eagles that would be the Body Bag game warriors that they were yesterday? The game was not a game yesterday after Reddick put Brock Purdy out. That was it. Josh Johnson did not have a prayer. Purdy couldn’t sling his arm back. The game was over in that first series on defense. After the Eagles go down yet again and get 7. Including 4 rushing TDs against that Vaunted Niner’s defense that you couldn’t run the ball on…
This group, that went 14-3 during the regular season. Led by a QB who is as genuine as you can be. Who is the ultimate team guy. It is pretty awesome that in a city that is always about the collective, he would be the guy who would lead us to the next Super Bowl.
That line has carried this team. Led by Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce, the veteran warriors. It is amazing what that line has done. That game was close. The 49ers’ defense was playing well. But this was a stroke of genius by Nick Sirianni and Shane Steichen. They ran to the weak side, and they had incredible success with Kelce, Dickerson, and Mailata opening up holes…
That D-Line was just relentless. The back end played great, everybody played great. It just was a party. An NFC Championship game party. Two routs. How about this season? They go 14-3 and then rout the Giants in the divisional round, and Rout the Niners in the Conference Championship game. Are you kidding me with this team?
The second would be Jeffrey Lurie, who is the best owner in all of the NFL… He has taken this team to relevancy. Look, they had their moments in the 70s and ’80s when they went to the Super Bowl. But they have had amazing sustained success under Jeffrey Lurie. And what more could you say about Howie Roseman being the great architect of this team?… Look what he added. He makes the draft day trade for AJ Brown… You get Reddick who becomes a star… And when they showed that they needed some depth in the middle, Howie goes and gets Suh and Joseph to bolster the middle. He goes and gets James Bradberry to play opposite Slay, which was a work of genius. One move after the other, and they all work magically…
And then of course the 3rd group is this fan base… We know who we are. We know how special we are as a collective… That is what this whole thing is. As you see the shots on Broad Street last night, you see it packed from the Linc to North Philly. It is just an incredible city, with incredible people. Last night showed the love that we have. And it was a sign to the rest of the country and the world, about what it is like to love unconditionally…
Their smiles which are unfiltered. Their joy which is unadulterated. When I see them sing, dance, chant, and hug each other. I am most proud of that. What it is is a chance to connect with each other… That is the greater message here. That is the beauty. It is not just football, not just fandom, it supersedes all of that. It is a show of what we can be when it is organic and pure.
And what better team to do this with? Nick Sirianni said that this is a team glued together by love. I love the Ted Lasso thing he has going on. He made it a point to point out the love that those players have for one another. That is why you see this response. It was like that for the Phillies. We saw that party happen and everyone jumped on it. And you see it with this football team.
Yea it is not over. It will be a great Super Bowl. Eagles vs Chiefs. And the Eagles are now the favorite. They opened as an underdog, and it immediately flipped to the Eagles, which is a good sign. They have every chance to win that Super Bowl.”
