A peek inside Phillies clubhouse at an emotional Joe Girardi after 1,000th win
Joe Girardi said he was emotional in the Phillies’ clubhouse after Wednesday’s win, the 1,000th of his managerial career. Bryce Harper brought a tear to his eye with a postgame speech.
Here’s a glimpse of what a choked-up Girardi said to his Phillies players.

“A lot of times I get emotional and act like this because I feel like I’ve been really blessed and lucky to be around a lot of great people like you guys,” Girardi said.
“Not everyone gets this opportunity but I would tell you the uniform is a privilege. Keep it on as long as you can. And whenever you get an opportunity to put it on even longer, do it. Without you guys, this never happens. I don’t win anything, nothing. I get to coach great players and have great coaches. God bless all of you and stay healthy.”
Win No. 1,000 tied Girardi with Charlie Manuel for 64th on the all-time MLB managerial wins list. He’ll pass Jim Fregosi about 30 wins from now and Felipe Alou from there.
