No One Should be Bothered by Josh Harris Buying the Commanders
If things were awkward already when the Philly Teams owners meet up, it just got more so. Josh Harris already owned the Sixers and the Devils. But now he owns one of the Eagles’ Rivals as well. Josh Harris’s group’s bid to by the Commanders has reportedly been accepted. This comes after Jeff Bezos dropped out of the running to buy the team. Joining Harris as a part owner of the team is Magic Johnson.
Certain people in Philly are not happy with the idea he would own the Sixers and the Commanders. But he has been part owner of the Devils for years now. When has that ever impacted anything with the Sixers? Never. It has never kept Josh Harris from investing whatever it takes into the Sixers. Under Harris, the Sixers have turned things around. A lot of that has to do with having Joel Embiid. But Harris has invested a ton of money in surrounding Embiid with other players. Has that always worked out? No. But an owner can only spend the money.
Harris is clearly committed to Philly and the Sixers. Even if you don’t like the plan for 76 Place, he is willing to build a new stadium in the city with his own money.
…
The only thing about this that should bother Philly fans, is it could mean the Commanders will be on the rise. Harris took over the Sixers and turned them into perennial contenders. The Devils were bottom feeders for a bit, and now are contenders. The Commanders getting out from under Daniel Snyder and getting a competent owner for once could mean the Commanders will finally stop sucking. But to be upset that Josh Harris will own teams in a rival city is just silly. It will have literally no impact on anything Sixers related.
Though if the Nationals, Braves, or Marlins go on sale anytime soon, watch out for Josh Harris.
