Which Eagles Players Should You Target For Fantasy Football This Year
All of them, naturally. No, but seriously it’s fantasy football draft season already. It’s perhaps the best part of the fantasy football season because the rest of the year is torturous typically. Failed waiver claims, top draft picks getting hurt, going up against the top performer of the week in what seems like every week and just bad luck. We’ve all been there but we all love it, we come back hopeful every pre-season. Great night for people to convince themselves that they aced the draft this time around. So let’s take a look at the Eagles options this year and how they could possibly fare…
(I used CBS Sports Fantasy page for average draft positions…)
QB: Jalen Hurts
ADP: 49.02 / QB Rank: 6th overall
Jalen is primed for a big fantasy season as he falls just outside CBS’ top 5 QBs for this season. AJ Brown was one of the biggest acquisitions of the off-season and should be a tremendous upgrade for Hurts entering year 3. Dallas Goedert is on the doorstep of being a top 5 fantasy TE and with no Ertz to poach receptions away from him this year and Devonta Smith entering year 2, the weapons are big time. Add in the rushing yards & rushing TDs and there shouldn’t be much doubt that Hurts will be a top 10 fantasy QB this year. If he can up his throwing TDs to around 25 or so and keep adding 10 on the ground, 35 TDs is basically a 2 an average every weekend which is a nice fantasy luxury to count on. He’s a QB1 for fantasy purposes.
WR: AJ Brown
ADP: 38.04 / WR Rank: 11th overall
AJ thrived in a run first offense in Tennessee and now finds himself potentially in another run based offense with the threat of Jalen Hurts and the Eagles running game on the ground. He’s that big bodied playmaker the Eagles have needed on the outside and not only will he make Jalen’s life easier, he’ll also help Goedert and Smith out in a big way also. His effect on the offense is invaluable. Can he get 1,000 yards & 8-10 TDs in this offense? Sure can.
WR: Devonta Smith
ADP: 98.78 / WR Rank: 33rd overall
Hurts’ #1 target from last year should have a lot of pressure taken off this year by not drawing the oppositions #1 DB target weekly and he’ll no longer be able to be doubled with the addition of AJ Brown. Smith should an incredible ability to get open in his first year and drew a 21% target share from Hurts. His targets might drop some this year but his production could remain similar in a smaller workload situation. Ideally he’s your fantasy FLEX/WR3.
RB: Miles Sanders
ADP: 74.23 / RB Rank: 29th
Now I actually see some good value in Sanders as RB2 this year but the biggest question he always faces is his health. Because of the 0 TDs last year, his fantasy value plummeted and I doubt a repeat of that will happen. When you have a QB with 10 rushing TDs, you’re going to get some poached from you. But there’s no doubt his big play ability is there and maybe most important, he’s playing for a contract. Guys tend to play their best with a contract on the line. If healthy is a solid RB2.
RB: Kenneth Gainwell
ADP: 129.61 / RB Rank: 49th
Gainwell early in the part of his rookie campaign looked like he was going to be a big contributor right out of the gate but almost fell out of favor towards the end of the season. Entering year two he looks to take on a bigger role within the offense. Early camp reports have him lining up on the outside so it appears he’ll be a part of the passing game as well. Late round fantasy keeper potential with him too in case the Eagles don’t bring back Sanders next year and Gainwell shines this year. RBBench/potential keeper pick.
TE: Dallas Goedert
ADP: 68/.83 / TE rank: 7th
Goedert has a strong case to boom this year in fantasy. Would not shock me at all if he ends up a top 3/4 fantasy TE this season. No more Zach Ertz to battle for catches with anymore. He’s the TE to shine in an offense that looks the way of the TE often, especially in the red zone. The addition of AJ Brown to this offense should also remove some defensive pressure off of Goedert as well. He’s also displayed being one of the teams best big play potential players. Definitely a target of mine this year. TE1.
