The Top 10 Philly Sports Figures that I appreciate as a fan
by John Kincade
The legacy of Philadelphia sports is one of frequent pain, moments of great joy and tremendous passion. In our collective journey many characters create impressions that last a lifetime. It can be a coach, a star talent or a front office executive.
We discussed this on air this morning and my 11th option was Brian Dawkins. Jamie had him high on his list. A friend told me I must be high to not have Joel Embiid on my list ahead of Charles Barkley. His lack of playoff moments didn’t hurt him, yet I seem to be holding that against Embiid. Bob brought up the Phillie Phanatic and I kicked myself. Impactful to a fan base for more than 2 generations. The standard setter for all sports mascots. Mike Keenan made my list for a completely personal reason as I got to work with my favorite childhood team because of him.
What are your thoughts? Who made your list that didn’t make mine? This exercise shows how deeply personal fan support is. Where did I swing and miss in your opinion?
