Muhammad Ali on his way to defeating Sonny Liston during their world heavyweight title fight

See what Andrew Salciunas found in The Audio Vault today! Every day on The Anthony Gargano Show, Andrew pulls audio relevant to the day. Famous Birthdays, notable events from this day in history, and more. Today that included a fight between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston that happened on this day in history. A different fight featuring Philly’s own Joe Frazier. Dav Hollins’ Birthday. And the time Eric Lindros led the Flyers to the Stanley Cup. here is what Andrew played in The Audio Vault Today.

  • Ali vs Liston Second Fight

On this day in 1965, Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston stepped into the ring for the 2nd time. Ali was fighting to hold onto his title as the Heavyweight Champion of the World. And it did not take him too long to defend that. He knocked out Liston in round 1. The thing was, Ali was not a very popular boxer at the time. You will hear the boos in the clip Andrew plays. Taht did not stop Ali from winning though. Andrew played the pre-fight Fanfare and the end result of the fight in the Audio Vault today.

  • Joe Frazier vs Ron Stander

A different Heavyweight Champion also defended his crown on this day in history. Philly’s won Joe Frazer. In 1972, the undefeated Frazier entered the ring with Ron Stander with the Belt on the line. Frazier stayed undefeated. Stander held in there, but he was getting beatdown, and they called it in the 4th round for the sake of Stander’s health. Andrew played some of that fight in the Vault today.

  • Happy Birthday Dave Hollins

It is Dave Hollin’s Birthday. The Phillies’ 3rd baseman was a key part to that 1993 run to the World Series. And to celebrate his birthday, Andrew played one of those moments Hollins helped lift them there. His HR off Maddux in game 6 of the NLCS is part of the reason they beat the Braves. So Andrew played it in the Audio Vault today.

  • Flyers Advance to the Stanley Cups Finals in 1997

Eric Lindros got the Flyers to one Stanely Cup, and that happened on this day in 1997. The Flyers beat Wayne Gretzky and the Rangers in game 5 to advance to the Cup. That was back when hockey in Philadelphia was fun. Lindros himself had 5 goals and 4 assists in those 5 games. Ron Hextall gave up just 7 goals in those 5 games. And Andrew played some moments from that game 5, including when the game ended, in the Audio Vault today.
