Even Saquon Barkley’s Team Is Amazed By What He Is Doing
Saquon Barkley has been a revelation for the Eagles this season. Miles Sanders and D’Andre Swift did well for them in the past two seasons. But watching them, and now watching Barkley, you can just see the difference between a good RB, and a great one. Barkley just won his 3rd NFC Offensive Player Of The Week Award. In 3 of the 8 weeks he has played, he has been the best player in the NFC.
He is currently on track for 1,965 rushing yards, plus another 310 passing yards. He is also on track for 17 total TDs, a number that would be even higher if not for the Tush Push poaching goal-line opportunities from him.
In Barkley, the Eagles have a player who can change the game at any given moment. They have a guy who can do things like this.
Obviously, fans went crazy about this play. We see plenty of players vault over tackles, but we never see someone do it backwards, and usually, there aren’t spin moves thrown in the mix on the same run.
Saquon Barkley Draws High Praise From His Own Teammates
But it is not just fans blown away by this type of play. His own teammates were amazed by it too. Just look at how the bench reacted to it in real-time.
Several days later, they are still talking about it. And he is drawing some major praise from his teammates. Tim McManus joined The Best Show Ever this week and talked to Tyrone and Ricky about just how much praise Barkley’s teammates are giving him.
“The buzz continues inside that locker room for the reverse hurdle that he pulled off. You know, Darius Slay today said, I’ve played with Megatron and I think that Barkley is the best player I’ve ever played with. You know, that’s the kind of praise that he’s getting internally. Dallas Goedert was just talking about how mesmerized he and everybody else was when he saw Saquon pull that off. And they were watching it in the team meeting this week and people just going crazy over it.
So, you know, that hasn’t gone away. Like the excitement over Barkley, over that play like it’s all still very palpable in that locker room.”
Comparisons to Megatron don’t come easy. Him retiring early, and being stuck in Detroit, may have led to him sliding under the radar a bit, but he might have been the best player in the league when he played. But according to Slay, Barkley might be even better.
Barkley has the most 10+ yard rushes with 23, is second for 20+ yard runs with 8, is 1st for 30+ yard runs with 6, and is 1st in 40+ yard runs with 4. He has added explosiveness to the Eagles running game. He is the true definition of a game-breaker. The great O-line helps. But Barkley with this O-line makes the Eagles as dangerous of a run team as there is in the league.
The only guy in the NFL putting up better numbers is Derrick Henry. Maybe those two will change the whole “RBs don’t matter” conversation around the league.
He has helped get the Eagles to 6-2. There are still questions about the coach, but the offense itself seems to be clicking on all cylinders. Saquon Barkley is a massive part of that. Just ask his teammates, they will tell you how amazing he has been.
