Game 1 did not go the way the Phillies wanted. Zack Wheeler was fantastic, but the lineup and the bullpen were less so. So now in game 2, it falls on Cristopher Sanchez to right the ship. Can he follow in Wheeler's footsteps and pitch a gem?

Cristopher Sanchez has faced the Mets 6 times in his career, plus 3 appearances out of the bullpen. He has a 3.62 ERA across 37.1 innings. He faced them 3 times this season, and in those 3 starts, he pitched 17.2 innings to an ERA of just 3.06. In his last 2 outings, he gave up just 3 runs across 12 innings (2.25 ERA).

The point is, he has pitched well against them, especially of late and especially at home where he has two straight 7 inning performances with 3 combined runs between them. Let's take a look at his numbers vs each of the Mets hitters.

  • JD Martinez- .286/.444/.571/1.016- 2 RBIs, 2 BBs. 0 HRs, 2 2Bs, 2 Ks in 7 ABs

With a few exceptions, he has pitched really well against this lineup. Of course, we saw Wheeler dominate them across 7 scoreless innings. Sanchez could pitch just as well, and it won't mean anything.

The bats are going to have to do more against Luis Severino than they did against the Mets bullpen yesterday if they are going to even up the series. Check out the below link to see how they have hit against Severino in the past.

The Philadelphia Phillies began the MLB Playoffs in 2023 the same way they did in 2022.

While they didn’t win the National League East, they look primed for a hot streak in the new playoff format with six bids in each league.

The 2023 Phillies

It looked like history would repeat itself with a wild card team reaching the World Series. Except this time, the Phillies wouldn’t be the surprise underdogs against a team powerhouse like the Houston Astros.

Dave Dombrowski had added Trea Turner to an already stacked lineup. The high-priced shortstop finally came around offensively late in the 2023 regular season, and the World Series experience in 2022 made the Phillies a popular title pick locally and nationally.

The Red October crowd resumed the wrath that opponents felt during the miracle ride in 2022.

The Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, and the Arizona Diamondbacks stood in their way.
