Hard Knocks Exposes Just How Inept The Giants Have Become
One of my favorite parts of the off-season version of Hard Knocks with the Giants has been watching the behind-the-scenes of the Saquon Barkley deal. It is been pure comedy to see how it all unfolded on their side.
As we all know by now, Saquon left New York to come to the Eagles. We did not know how it went on the Giants’ side though. Did they actually make him a fair offer? How did they take the news? What was their reasoning for letting him walk?
Hards Knocks Exposes Giants’ Ineptitude
In each episode of Hard Knocks, we got a snippet of the story. Well this week, we finally got to free agency and got to see them react to the news of Saquon Barkley not only signing elsewhere but with the Eagles. The results were as amazing as you would predict. They seemed devasted but were trying so hard to hide it. You can catch a snippet of it below.
Something tells me, “We’re going to be fine,” are words that will follow Giants GM Joe Schoen. But that is just one of the highlights of the clip. I also love Schoen’s “I am trying to prepare myself mentally” quote.
It also shatters the myth Giants fans love to run with that the Giants gave him a similar offer. We see the Giants get the chance to match it and refuse. Then they go on to talk about how the deal was just too rich for them. Saquon didn’t betray the Giants, they didn’t offer him a competitive contract.
I also love the images of them just watching the reports in silence, almost wallowing in the news. Followed by the counter punch of Safety Xavier McKinney leaving too. It is a fantastic television. If you have not been watching Hard Knocks, I suggest every Eagles fan do so. It is better than any comedy you can see in theaters so far this year.
The Giants used to be a proud franchise. There was a time you could call them one of the best run teams in the league. But for the past decade-plus, after their last Super Bowl win in 2012, they have been a disaster. In that time they are 61-100.
They hoped they were getting away from that when they fired David Gettleman, but the Joe Schoen era is not off to a much better start. Paying Daniel Jones, but letting guys like Saquon Barkley and Xavier Mckinney walk, likely will come back to haunt Joe.
New episodes of Hard Knocks drop every Tuesday on MAX. The Saquon Barkley stuff is now over for the show, but I am still very much enjoying watching just how inept our rivals are.
