If You Think This Season Is Super Bowl or Bust, Just Say It
Earlier today, John and I got into the mindset of a fan and how you should handle expectations going into a season. We know that last year ended horribly. We know that there are still a ton of questions that have to be answered. We know that a 10-1 start next season will still have us questioning if it is “real”. Here is what I say to you: stop taking sports so seriously.
As radio hosts, we have the duty to be real with you. If a team is struggling, even though we love them, we have to point those struggles out. If we don’t believe a team will win a championship, we will tell you as much. But because we aren’t journalists, we are allowed to have fun with these teams.
The Eagles will be very good this season and we can’t wait to be on the ride with you all. Just because John’s base is for the Eagles to win the division, and mine is to get a step farther than last year, if you believe this season is “Super Bowl or Bust” freaking say it.
Life is short. We haven’t seen much success as Philadelphia sports fans if success is championships. But living your life as a sports fan expecting the worst, or having expectations of just winning the division isn’t fun.
Sports is supposed to be fun. With all the stress, with all the heartbreak, we are back every night, every week, every season. Why? Because we love these teams. Because we have fun memories of these teams. So why wouldn’t you have fun during the off-season when you talk about your expectations for these teams? We don’t work for the teams. So just enjoy it!
