Eagles Make Jake Elliott Highest Paid Kicker in NFL History
Kicker fans rejoice. Jake Elliott signed an extension with the Eagles for the next 4 seasons. His 4-year $24 million contract ties him with Justin Tucker for the highest-paid Kicker in NFL history.
Elliott joined the Eagles in 2017. One of his first moments with the team was kicking a game-winning 61-yard FG against the Giants. He of course then went on to help them win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Since then, he has mostly been perfect. There were a couple of seasons mixed in there where he struggled. But his FG% was over 90% in two of his last 3 seasons. Plus he continues to have a knack for nailing long FGs in crunch time. That includes a game-tying FG last year against the Bills, in bad weather, that sent the game to OT.
…
Elliott has a strong case to be called the best kicker in Eagles history. As great as David Akers was, he lacks the range Elliott has. Elliott has made 27 of the 36 50+ yard FGs he attempted in his career. He missed only 2 such kicks in the past 3 seasons. Elliott is one of only 5 kickers in NFL history to make at least 3 Fgs of 59 or more yards, and he is a perfect 3 for 3.
It continues a busy free agency for the Eagles. They extended Jake Elliott and Landon Dickerson. On top of that, they added Bryce Huff, Saqiuon Barkley, and CJ Gardner Johnson. Championships are not won on paper, but the Eagles seem to be winners early in free agency. The money they are dishing out doesn’t even seem to be bad. Barkley’s contract looks big, but he will carry a cap hit of just over $3 million in 2024. Keeping one of the best kickers in the league is the latest in a string of good moves.
