Orion Kerkering Perfectly Trolls Orlando Arcia During Post Game Celebration
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 12: The Philadelphia Phillies celebrate in the clubhouse after beating the Atlanta Braves 3-1 in Game Four of the Division Series at Citizens Bank Park on October 12, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Orion Kerkering knows just how to endear himself to Philly fans. And I don’t mean him pitching 3 scoreless innings so far in the playoffs, although that certainly helps. I am talking about his choice of T-shirt for the celebrations following the Phillies clinching the NLDS over the Braves. The Phillies’ young relief pitcher decided to troll Orlando Arcia, by wearing an “Atta Boy” t-shirt, that also said “He wasn’t supposed to hear it” on the back.
Orlando Arcia kicked a hornet’s nest when he chose to openly mock Bryce Harper in front of reporters following the Braves’ only win in the series. He was repeatedly yelling “Atta Boy Harper” after Harper was doubled off first base to end game 2. Word got out, Bryce Harper heard about it, and he answered with 2 home runs the next night.
That of course led to the Braves players, notably Travis d’Arnaud and Arcia himself turning into giant babies and whining g about how the quote was leaked. But when you are shouting something in front of reporters, it’s hard to call it a leak. Maybe next time just wait until reporters are out of the room Arcia before running your mouth if you don’t want him to hear about it. Or just don’t run your mouth to begin with since you were otherwise irrelevant in the series. Nice 2-13 performance. Atta Boy Arcia.
Phillies fans were shouting Atta Boy At Arcia every time he came to the plate. Also when he was just in the clubhouse. And he did have a little hissy fit responding to the fans as well.
Kerkering will likely be more beloved than he already was for this choice of attire. Orlando Arcia became the latest villain after his idiotic comments. And poking some fun at him, while celebrating the NLDS victory, is a great way to endear yourself to the fanbase.
The Phillies 26-Man Roster For the NLCS Vs The Diamondbacks
The Phillies are back in the NLCS. For the second straight year, they knocked the 100+ win Braves out of the playoffs in the NLDS. Everyone called them the greatest lineup in Baseball history. Didn’t seem so potent against the Phillies. They were held to just 7 runs across 4 games. With guys like Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson being quiet the entire series. And now, we can look forward to the NLCS and the Diamondbacks.
The Phillies get the next 3 days off. Which they may need after how much they partied after the win in game 4. And then on Monday, it begins. They need 4 more wins to get to the World Series, and 8 more to parade down Broad Street.
And there is good reason to be very confident in this team. As good as last year’s team was, this roster is even better. To start, they have Trea Turner who is putting up crazy numbers. Bryce Harper is still the best playoff hitter ever. And now you have Nick Castellanos playing out of his mind after he struggled in the playoffs last year. And maybe more important, is how great the pitching looks.
The Braves may be choke artists, but that was still a very good lineup. They were shut down by the Phillies pitchers though. Wheeler, Nola, and Suarez all pitched gems. And apart from game 2, the Bullpen shut the door on the Braves once the starters came out. The bullpen goes deep, far deeper than it did last year. The lineup is just as deep. This team is very good.
So before the NLCS, let’s get a reminder of just how good this 26-man roster is. And while we are at it, let’s see how all of them have played against the Diamondbacks so far this season.
Here is what their 26-man roster in the NLCS vs the Diamondbacks will look like:
