John Tortorella Discusses His Team’s Fast Start
The start of the Flyers’ season has gone better than most would have predicted. They are 3-1, including a comeback win vs the Lightning earlier in the week. But is their coach happy with how they have played? Here is what John Tortorella had to say about his team’s start to the season when he joined “The Best Show Ever?” earlier today.
On How He Thinks His Team Has Looked So Far…
“I think we are doing ok. Our work habits have been good. Little disappointed about some of the battle that we had last night. I thought we played better last night after the game. But I watched the tape today, and not such much. We didn’t win too many puck battles. The 50-50 pucks are something we need to get better at. Overall we have done okay. But we are going to have to learn to be better when the score is 0-0, and not fall behind.”
On Noah Cates Play So Far…
“I thought he had a little bit of a struggle last night. The pace of it got to him. Florida is a very fast team. But overall he has been the surprise of the camp. The ice time he is getting, and the situations he is being put in he deserves. Always concerned with young guys. There is going to be a plateau sooner or later. We have to push him through that… But from the first day of camp, until right now, he has been a pleasant surprise for me.”
On if He Will Be Ready to Name a Captain Soon…
“No, it is way too early for me. We’ve had it go our way a little bit. We have had great goaltending. Found a way to win games. When you get into the grind of a season, December and Early January, who knows where we are going to be as a team then. I want to see how guys react when we need someone to pull not only themselves out but get people to follow them out of a jam. That is going to take a while. I am not naming a captain this year. I just don’t see foresee that happening. We have to live through some experiences and see where we go.”
