Anthony Gargano’s Opening Diatribe- A Great Weekend For Philadelphia
What a weekend. Phillies advanced past the Cardinals. The Eagles stayed undefeated. And the hated Mets are eliminated. On top of that, the Union clinched the top seed in their conference. You couldn’t ask for a better week for Philly sports. And it sets the Phillies up to face the Braves, and the Eagles to welcome the Cowboys in on Sunday night. You know Anthony was fired up when he came on today. And you can see how he started his show this morning below.
Here is what Anthony had to say today about the great weekend in his Opening Diatribe…
“A Double Bird Monday! Red October continues after the Fighting Phils take 2 from St Louis. The Eagles beat the Cardinals and go 5-0. Wow! Things are looking up.
Let’s begin with the Fightin’s. Oh, that was incredible. It Starts Friday. The bats were silent. It was tense Red October baseball. Phils are down 2-0. Yepez with the two-run bomb. And then all of a sudden the 9th inning happens, and the rally. 6 Runs! Walks and small ball. Jean in his first playoff. And the Phils take game 1, and you are going Oh my god this is unbelievable. They stole it!
Then comes Saturday night, and it was tense. And here was Nola, who was stunningly good. His fastball touched 95. It had a little rise to it. He pitched the best game that he has ever pitched. He was dominant in that game. They couldn’t get any lift off of it. Everything was on top of the baseball. He was incandescent. Nola was money!
It was still tense. That was another game where we sat there and they had chances to bust it up. Bryce had the big bomb. He took that curve ball and he just mashed it. But they had chances to tack on, and they didn’t tack on. Rule 1 in playoff baseball is you have to tack on. And it didn’t happen. But they were able to escape. The Phils win both Friday and Saturday. And now we have the Braves tomorrow.
Listen, it’s Red October. We talk about playoff Baseball all the time, it is the great evener. Underdogs are live. The Braves are formidable. However, the Braves have been sitting… Sometimes when you sit, you get a little off. There is a little rust. And all of the sudden you don’t see the ball well, and you are down in the series. All the Phillies have to do is take 1 in Atlanta. And then let’s see where the pressure is. Do they start squeezing the bat?
Listen this in anybody’s series. As good as Atlanta is, playoff baseball has proven time and time again. And we just saw it last night. because the cherry on top of the weekend was the Mets going down… The Mets are out. Chokers. We can hear the gurgle from Queens. The Padres came in and they took out the Mets. So the Phillies are live. They have a great chance in this thing.
And then of course we have the Birds yesterday. Listen, I know it got dicey. I know that Kyler Murray played dumb football… But to win on the road and go 5-0. It was a great win. To go 5-0 in this league? They are the best team in the NFC. It is clear now. You look at them, they are the best team in the NFC.
And it sets up Cowboy week. They ain’t losing this game. Aint losing Sunday night. We have a showdown. Phillies- Braves, and Eagles-Cowboys.”
