Two Sixers Up For NBA Awards
Before the Sixers get ready to dominate the playoffs the team got some good news. Two of their own have been named finalists for NBA end of the season awards. Joel Embiid has been named a finalist for the leagues MVP award and Ben Simmons has been named a finalist for the leagues defensive player of the year. Its the first time since 2001 that the team has had two Sixers up for the awards in the same year. Its worth mentioning both Sixers won the awards in 2001 (Iverson for MVP and Mutombo for DPOY)
Neither of these nods should be a shock. But its still nice to see the Sixers get one step closer to getting some well earned hardware. Both Embiid and Simmons have their work cut out for them though. Embiid is a finalist along with Nikola Jokic from the Nuggets and Steph Curry from the Warriors. The knock on Embiid is that he missed some time.
Ben Simmons will go against Draymond Green from the Warriors and the guy Ben Simmons cooked for 42 points reigning Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. While Simmons SHOULD be a lock for the award, its typically an award given to centers. Only 5 times since 1988 has the award went to a non center.
but at the end of the day theres only one trophy the players and fans care about. And its that Larry O.B.
