Temple Legend John Chaney Passes Away
Temple University lost its rock today as basketball Hall of Famer John Chaney passed away at the age of 89.
Chaney took over the Temple men’s basketball team in 1982, having previously coached Cheyney University. He turned Temple into a household name. His 741 career wins are good for 41st all time in NCAA history. He took Temple to 17 NCAA tournaments, and entered the 1988 tournament as the #1 team in the country.
Chaney retired in 2006, giving way to the Fran Dunphy era. But even though he was no longer coaching the Owls, he was never far from the team. The basketball world lost an amazing coach today.
