Paul George And The Sixers Agree To 4-Year Max Contract
Paul George and the Sixers have agreed to a 4-year max contract. We knew what the plan was for the Sixers this off-season. Daryl Morey did not say the words “star-hunting”, but he did say high-level wing player, which is basically the same thing. Now we know who that will be, they just waited until we were all asleep to make it official.
Paul George Still Has Something To Offer
Paul George is a 9-time All-Star and has made 6 All-NBA teams. It was rumored Morey had his eyes on George as far back as a year ago. Morey punted on last season, to make sure he had cap space this offseason, with Paul George being the prize he sought after. For better or worse, Morey pulled off that goal, locking in the 34-year-old for the next 4 years.
Contrary to popular belief, Paul George is still playing at a high level. Last season marked his 9th straight where he averaged at least 20 points per game. He also got his 3pt% over 40% for the 1st time since 2021.
More importantly, he stayed healthy. Availability has been one of the biggest issues for Paul George. He has only played 70 games in 1 of his past 5 seasons. That one year was last season.
He comes into Philly without the expectation to carry the team. He will play 2nd fiddle to Joel Embiid, and maybe even 3rd fiddle behind Tyrese Maxey. What he will give them is a 3rd guy they can count on to score.
We saw in each of the past few seasons that if Embiid was off, the Sixers lost. Meanwhile, there were games for the Celtics where Jayson Tatum was awful, but the Celtics had the firepower to pick him up on those nights. Joel Embiid has never had that type of support. Now with Paul George and the emergence of Maxey, the Sixers hope they have that support behind Embiid.
What Comes Next For Paul George And The Sixers?
Now they have to build a roster. They already added Andre Drummond to back Embiid. They also added Eric Gordon and resigned Kelly Oubre. But they still have a lot of work to do to even field a team.

A 5-year max deal for Maxey deal is eventually going to come. But they need the two other starters, and the rest of the bench. There are rumors Morey will try to bring in a 4th name as well. But he is going to have to get creative to fill out the roster with 3 max players.
