Sixers Trade Pat Beverley To the Milwaukee Bucks For Cam Payne
The Sixers have made their 3rd move of the deadline. Though this one may catch fans off guard a bit. The Sixers have traded Pat Beverley to the Bucks. In exchange, they get a 2nd round pick, and Cam Payne. The Pat Bev Pod was actually the first to break the news. But Shams Charnaia had the details of the trade first.
Gettin a 2nd round pick back restocks the shelves a bit for them. They had traded 3 of them to bring in Buddy Hield, and then 1 more to unload Danuel House. But the player swap is the interesting part of this deal.
What Cam Payne brings is an upgrade to the team’s 3-point shooting. Pat Bev shoots just 32% from distance so far this season. Cam Payne shoots 39.7% from 3. But some of what Pat Bev brought to the team didn’t show up in the stat sheet. His defensive rating has consistently been atop the leaderboards for individual players, albiet in limited minutes. And there is something to the toughness and veteran presence he brings to the team. But with rumors flying around that Kyle Lowry could be destined for the Sixers as a buyout candidate, would he replace those aspects for the Sixers? That may be what they are banking on.
With Embiid out for the time being, the Sixers need more people who can score. And despite everything Pat Bev does bring, he was not giving them enough production on that end. Cam Payne isn’t a true difference-maker. But he will at least have more to offer from that side of the ball. And he is another 3-point shooter they can pair with Embiid when he does come back from the meniscus surgery.
