Flyers Prospect Cutter Gauthier Comes Up Clutch For Team USA
Flyers fans have not yet gotten the chance to see Cutter Gauthier in orange and black. But he is already making waves on an international stage. He is currently competing with Team USA at the World Juniors and is a big reason why the USA is moving on to the Finals. Team USA was knotted up 2-2 with 3 minutes to go into the game, and Gauthier hit about as clutch of a shot as you can to put them up, and eventually send them to the Gold Medal game.
It continues a trend of him playing at a high level throughout the World Juniors. This was only his 2nd goal, but his 12th total point through 6 games. Those 12 points lead all Skaters at the World Juniors. It’s 3 more than the next player. He is also winning 60.78 % of his faceoffs, which is 3rd in the tournament.
Next up for Team USA is the Gold Medal game vs Team Sweeden. Like the USA, Sweden has only lost 1 game to this point in the tournament. Finland beat them 5-4 to close out group play, But they have beaten pretty much everyone else by multiple goals. They just beat the Czech Republic 5-2 to advance to the finals. It’s one more chance to see the future Flyer in action, as he continues to impress on this stage.
In the not-so-distant future, the Flyers could be looking at a 1st line featuring both Cutter Gauthier and Matvei Michkov, who is also impressing in the Russian League. That is one player who has the makings of an elite goal scorer and another who at least in the World Juniors has been an elite creator. Not a bad core to build around. Add that in with how good the current young core of the Flyers looks this season, and the Flyers’ future is looking brighter and brighter.
