Nepotism Poster Child David Samson Insults Phillies Fans
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 17: Philadelphia Phillies fans cheer prior to playing the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game Two of the Championship Series at Citizens Bank Park on October 17, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Have you ever been a Vice President of two Baseball teams just because your stepdad owned those teams? Probably not. That is not a common experience. But David Samson knows how that feels. David Samson helped his former stepdad Jeffrey Loria run both the Expos and the Marlins when Loria owned them. Then once Loria left unceremoniously baseball, so did Samson, never to be hired again. Now since he has no team to run because no one else will hire him, David Samson is a regular guest on The Dan Le Batard Show. And in a recent appearance, he took a potshot at Phillies fans.
“I can’t stand them. As a guy who was in the NL East for 8 years, it is ridiculous… In Philly, there were years they were not in the playoffs, and it is quiet, they are grumpy, they are rude, and it is empty. Now all of a sudden it is a bunch of frontrunners and they are going crazy. They are not even in the top 5 fanbases in all of baseball”
That’s just how fan bases usually work David. How many fanbases sell out when they are losing? Maybe in Football, but never in Baseball. The Rays were in the playoffs and couldn’t even fill out the lower level. Your former team the Marlins built a new stadium, while you were there, and never got people to come out. The Diamondbacks, who are in the NLCS, are basically giving tickets away at home.
Yet the Phillies are charging the cost of one month’s rent in some cases for 4 tickets, and they sell out every game in the playoffs. We have National Pundits calling it an SEC atmosphere. Phillies fans are so loud, they reach noise levels literally dangerous for your health. But we aren’t a top fanbase? I know you have been out of baseball for a while, again because no one but your ex-stepdad would ever hire you. But maybe don’t open your mouth if you are going to say something so stupid.
He did have some very nice things to say about the team themselves. So at least he is not a complete hater. But his shot at the fans just seems like leftover resentment from his run-ins with Phillies fans in the past.

The Phillies 26-Man Roster For the NLCS Vs The Diamondbacks
The Phillies are back in the NLCS. For the second straight year, they knocked the 100+ win Braves out of the playoffs in the NLDS. Everyone called them the greatest lineup in Baseball history. Didn’t seem so potent against the Phillies. They were held to just 7 runs across 4 games. With guys like Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson being quiet the entire series. And now, we can look forward to the NLCS and the Diamondbacks.
The Phillies get the next 3 days off. Which they may need after how much they partied after the win in game 4. And then on Monday, it begins. They need 4 more wins to get to the World Series, and 8 more to parade down Broad Street.
And there is good reason to be very confident in this team. As good as last year’s team was, this roster is even better. To start, they have Trea Turner who is putting up crazy numbers. Bryce Harper is still the best playoff hitter ever. And now you have Nick Castellanos playing out of his mind after he struggled in the playoffs last year. And maybe more important, is how great the pitching looks.
The Braves may be choke artists, but that was still a very good lineup. They were shut down by the Phillies pitchers though. Wheeler, Nola, and Suarez all pitched gems. And apart from game 2, the Bullpen shut the door on the Braves once the starters came out. The bullpen goes deep, far deeper than it did last year. The lineup is just as deep. This team is very good.
So before the NLCS, let’s get a reminder of just how good this 26-man roster is. And while we are at it, let’s see how all of them have played against the Diamondbacks so far this season.
Here is what their 26-man roster in the NLCS vs the Diamondbacks will look like:
