This past season I got to spend time with the Philadelphia Flyers while covering the team. I realized that the players are much more than what you see on the ice. I wanted to get to know a series of players and find out who they truly are. This series will highlight multiple players from the team.

I sat down with Flyers' assistant captain, Scott Laughton, to find out more about him. Laughton has only played for Philadelphia with his first season being the 2012-2013 season.

Q: What is your favorite moment in the NHL that you've had so far?

A: That's a good question. Probably the overtime winner in the playoffs and above all that, that was a pretty cool moment and the most meaningful goal I've scored probably.

Q: Do you prefer playing in Philadelphia or is there any other city that you like to play in that has a good atmosphere as well?

A: Yeah, Philly probably. I really like the ice and obviously used to it, so I love the fans here. They've been my number one, but I love going to Vegas and playing there. They've got a great, great little in-game stuff going on.

Q: What was it like getting your first goal as a player?

A: It was incredible. I still remember it. It was against Carolina. I'm not sure of the year, but remember Brayden Schenn assisted on it. And pretty cool moment because it took a little bit longer than expected.

Q: And if you didn't play hockey, is there any other sport that you would see yourself playing?

A: Lacrosse. I love lacrosse. I was going to try and play when I'm done.

Q: Maybe join the Wings? (The lacrosse team based in Philadelphia).

A: Yeah. I'm not kidding. I Would be like MJ a super athlete.

Q: What is the best thing about Philadelphia?

A: Everything. I think the food's amazing.

Q: And then what is the best part about being a Flyer?

A: I think just how passionate and how much history. All the guys that have come through here are alumni. I'm seeing all of them and how much they care for the organization. So you want to be a part of something special.

It's fair to say that Scott Laughton embodies the passion it takes to be a Philadelphia Flyer. Not only does Laughton reminisce some key moments while on ice; but he also shares his passion and pride for playing for the city of Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Flyers Are Truly In A Rebuild

The Philadelphia Flyers are in an active rebuild. The orange and black appointed Danny Briere as GM, and Keith Jones as President of hockey operations. Besides the front office changes, they also redesigned their jerseys. The biggest change at least for the players is a new locker room. This is a team that is completely ready to move on from their unsuccessful past, and ready to become a winning franchise.

While a new event floor, with new locker rooms, medical offices, dentists, and a V.I.P. access entry for fans doesn't guarantee the team performing better; it does help set the tone. After touring the construction sight with nearly everything being torn down- the only remaining "standing." structure was a painting on the wall with all the Flyers' former captains. This is a team that wants to get back to its roots and be the tough competitive hockey team Philadelphia once knew.

President of the Wells Fargo Center, Phil Laws, spoke about the innovative plans for rebuilding the event floor. "A lot has changed since 1996." Laws want to make the space modern. Laws explained they will not only redo the locker rooms, but add media spaces, visiting team media spaces, areas for the officials, and a family-based lounge for players' families.

If you're a fan reading this and think this won't benefit you, Laws reassured me the most unique concept of the floor is the "stairway to heaven." this set of stairs brings you from the Broadstreet entrance to the lounge on the event floor. This is the most luxurious experience a fan could have entering the Wells Fargo Center.

The event floor construction happens to be the final piece of the Wells Fargo Center 400+ million dollar renovation. The renovations are set to be completed by the start of the season.

The renovations also apply to the Sixers as they share the arena with the Flyers. The Sixers got brand-new locker rooms, which were in the works before the start of the Flyers' side.

The stairs lead the V.I.P guests to the event floor from the parking lot. This adds a luxury experience to the fans in attendance.
