Dispelling a False Narrative About The Phillies
It was an ugly weekend vs the Mets. To be more accurate, it has been an ugly season vs the Mets. They are now 5-14 vs their rivals up the NJ Turnpike. There is no getting around that. The Mets have their number. Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler are 0-9 vs the Mets. But these struggles are leading to a false narrative about the Phillies. It is fair to say they struggle vs the Mets. But I have seen some saying that the Phillies struggle vs all good teams. Those people are very wrong. Provably so. That is so false that the simplest of Google searches would have saved them the embarrassment of being so incredibly wrong.
Here are some of the teams the Phillies won the season series vs already. The Cardinals, the Padres, the Brewers, and the Dodgers. They’re currently tied 6-6 on the season series with the Braves. They could end up winning the season series vs every NL playoff team apart from the Mets. They are 22-17 vs NL playoff teams not named the Mets.

You should be upset by how poorly they played vs the Mets this season. If they run into the Mets in the playoffs, they are in all likelihood going to lose. And despite the winning record, I would say the same about the Dodgers. The Phillies are not on that elite level those two teams are right now.
But they are 100% on the level of any other team they may face in the Playoffs. In the first round, they are going to draw with the Cardinals or the Braves right now. We have seen proof this Phillies team can beat those teams. The Braves series may be tough, and the Phillies still have time to either win or lose that season series. But we have seen those two teams have been even up till now.
This is a good team. They have been one of the winningest teams in Baseball since they ditched Joe Girardi. Even with Bryce Harper out they have continued to win. They’re most likley going to make the Playoffs. I would give them a chance of beating whoever they face in the first series.
So be upset about the Mets series. You should be. They came up incredibly small and weren’t even competitive in many of these games. You could maybe give them a pass for the games under Joe Girardi. But now they have lost two straight series vs the Mets under Rob Thomson. So that argument doesn’t really fly. But I have heard too many people calling into the station, or on Twitter, trying to claim this team struggles vs good teams. And there is just no basis for that claim. It is just false.
