GLENDALE, ARIZONA - FEBRUARY 12: Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks to throw a pass against the Kansas City Chiefs during the first quarter in Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium on February 12, 2023 in Glendale, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Jalen Hurts has cashed IN. The Eagles quarterback signed a massive contract with the Eagles for $255 million over the next 5 years. The Eagles QB becomes “the highest paid QB in football” if you look at average annual salary. He will make, on average, $51 million. But the contract details were interesting.

In 2023 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $6.15 million.

In 2024 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $13.56 million

In 2025 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $21.77 million

In 2026 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $31.77 million

On the surface that certainly seems like Howie Roseman once again pulled a Houdini act with the cap. But is it as good as Eagles fans think? Lets take a look at how it ranks among the highest paid QB’s in the game. Because at the end of the day if you are an Eagles fan all you care about is the cap hit. The rest of it is just what Jeffrey Lurie has to pay. The cap hit is what allows you to build a team.

So I took a look at the top 11 quarterbacks in the league. Once I reached Jared Goff I decided to stop. The top 11 is the total value of the contract. So Patrick Mahomes $450 million dollar deal is #1, and so on. I then looked at the players average cap hit over the next 4 seasons (because we know those current numbers thanks to Adam Schefter)

Some of the quarterbacks have an out before the 4 years is up. So in that situation I just averaged out until the “out” hit. So here are the average cap hits for top 11 QB’s in football and where Jalen Hurts ranks.

  • 1) Deshaun Watson - Cleveland Browns ($52.68 million)

The Cleveland Browns creep has the 6th largest contract in the NFL, signing a $230 million dollar deal over 5 years BUT he has the largest average cap hit with an average of $52.58

  • 5) Matthew Stafford - Los Angeles Rams ($40 Million)

Stafford’s 4 year, $160 million dollar deal is tied for 7th in the NFL. But it has the 5th highest cap hit average at $40 million.

Daniel Jones signed a questionable contract but the Giants dolled out $160 million over 4 years which is tied for the 7th largest in the NFL. But it also has the 7th largest average cap hit with $33 million.

    2023: $21 million

    2024: $45 million

has an out after the 2025 season.

  • 8) Aaron Rogers - Green Bay Packers (?) ($31.6 million)

Aaron Rogers is on the verge of getting traded to the Jets, so all of this is for the time being. He has an out after this year so its only a 1 year average cap hit of $31.6 million. But that is still the 8th highest average cap hit for the 2023 season.

  • 9) Derek Carr - New Orleans Saints ($29.5 million)

Derek Carr recently signed a free agent contract with the Saints for 4 years $150 million. Its the 11th largest contract in the NFL but its the 9th highest average cap hit with $29.5 million.

    2024: $35.7 million

    2025: $45.7 million

has an out in his contract after the 2025 season.

  • 10) Dak Prescott - Dallas Cowboys ($26.8 million)

Dak initially signed a 4 year, $160 million dollar contract with the Cowboys which is tied for 7th largest in the NFL. But like Rogers this number should be taken with a grain of salt because Dak has an out in his contract after this year. But for the 2023 season his cap hit is $26.8 million

  • 11) Jalen Hurts - Philadelphia Eagles ($18.31 million)

Jalen Hurts just got PAID. The Eagles QB signed a 5 year, $255 million dollar deal which is the 3rd largest in the NFL and gives him the highest average in terms of money in the bank. BUT it also comes with the 11th highest average cap hit with $18.31 million. So if you see Howie then buy him a drink

    2023: $6.15 million

    2024: $6.15 million

    2025: $13.56 million

    2026: $21.77 million
