This season has not gone as planned so far for the Philadelphia Eagles. Or, maybe it has, depending on your outlook before the season started. Either way, the team doesn’t exactly look like their primed to compete for a playoff berth. There are numerous reasons for this, and this is not me trying to heap all of the blame on Jalen Hurts. I’m also not saying that the Eagles SHOULD move on from Jalen Hurts after this season. This is simply an acknowledgement that they COULD move on from Hurts, and if they choose to do so, here are 5 options for what the Eagles could do at the position next season:

1.) Deshaun Watson

It was the hot rumor around the NFL this offseason, and no doubt, it will resurface again if the Eagles decide to move on from Hurts. I have written multiple times that I do not want the Eagles to go anywhere near Watson due to his off the field issues, but clearly the front office is more interested in this potential move than I am. It would cost the Eagles multiple firsts, but would net them an uber talented and young QB. That may be enough to make the organization look past Watson’s allegations.

2.) Russell Wilson

There were also rumors out of Seattle this past offseason about Russell Wilson potentially seeking a new home. Wilson, who has killed the Eagles (and a lot of other teams) over the course of his elite career, is older than Watson, but still has a ton of talent. He would turn the Eagles into an absolute contender, but at 32 years old, is he worth the huge haul that Seattle would undoubtedly request? It’s a question that only Howie Roseman can answer.

3.) Aaron Rodgers

This is a less likely scenario than Watson or Wilson, but Rodgers very publicly made it known that he was no longer interested in playing for the Packers. So far in his last hurrah season, he’s thrown for over 1400 yards and 12 TD’s through 6 weeks, but has been rounding more into his former MVP form as of late. He is one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game, but would he want to play in Philly? The only way would be a Tom Brady – Tampa Bay takeover type scenario. Rodgers sees the Eagles with a ton of draft capital, hand picks his new head coach, and comes into a team that already has some enticing talent on offense? It could be possible, but is not likely.

4.) Derek Carr

Carr will be heading into the last year of a 5 year contract in 2022, which means the Raiders could look to move him and get a return rather than letting him test free agency after next season. Carr is not as talented as the other QBs we’ve covered so far, but that means he may be a bargain option that has the ability to play a role on a very competitive team. He was a near MVP in 2016, but that is now half a decade ago. If the birds are looking for a bargain star with high upside, maybe they decide that Carr is their man.

5.) Draft Somebody

The Eagles could always take the conventional route and use one of their presumed top 10 picks in the first round (or bundle multiple to move up) to draft a premier college QB. This QB class is not the strongest, and Howie Roseman has proven time and again that he is a below average talent evaluator, but there is plenty of reason to want to go after a young talented prospect that you can keep on a rookie contract while you attempt to rebuild the roster. You would be choosing a largely unproven option, especially compared to the other QB’s on this list, but it would potentially give you the most flexibility with the rest of your roster. It could be another year of QB factory talk in Philadelphia.
