11 Of Joel Embiid's Most Dominant Performances This Season

What Joel Embiid has been doing this year is hard to believe. 13 times he has scored 40 points. 5 times he has scored 50. It looks like he is finally going to win MVP. He certainly deserves it too. He is scoring at a rate we have never seen from a Center. This will be the 2nd straight season where he leads the NBA in scoring. All while anchoring a top-10 defense. Joel Embiid’s performance this season has truly been something to marvel at.

So before the playoffs start, and Embiid and the Sixers try to get past the 2nd round finally, let’s look back at what Embiid did this season. Because it is something worth appreciating. Whether it was him single-handedly beating the Celtics, setting a new career high in points, or having a block party vs the Grizzlies. Embiid has truly been the most dominant player in the NBA. He has at times made scoring 40 points look easy. After two unbelievable seasons, he continues to somehow improve.

But what performances stand out the most this season? We looked back and pulled 11 of his most impressive games this year. The times he took over on offense, defense, or perhaps both. There are of course a lot of games left out. Because Embiid is great and if we were going to put all of his good games, the list would be 70 items long.

Here are 11 of Joel Embiid’s Best Games This Season:

 

 

  • 4/4- Embiid Takes Down the Celtics Almost By Himself

    Perhaps one of the best games we have ever seen from Embiid. He scored 52 points. But what makes it extra special is that he needed just 25 shots to do it. 20 of 25 from the field. And he had 13 rebounds and 6 assists to go with it. He made nearly every shot he made. That free throw line extended jumper was particularly strong. And in it, he accomplished something no one has done since Wilt Chamberlain. Pretty good company to keep.

  • 11/13- Embiid Scores a Career 59 vs the Jazz

    If the most recent Celtics game was not his best game, the Jazz game back in November might be. 59 points. Embiid’s new career-high. And while he was not as efficient as he was in the Celtics game, he still shot 67.9% from the field. Add in the 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 blocks, and he nearly had a quadruple-double. Making him the only player in NBA history to put up that exact stat line.

  • 11/12- The Night Before that, Embiid Scored 42 Vs the Hawks

    What makes the 59-point game more impressive is that it was the second game of a back-to-back and the 3rd game in 4 days. And even better than that, he dropped 42 in the Hawks the night before. He also had 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks and steals, while shooting 56% from the field. That is 101pts, 21 rebounds, 14 assists, 9 blocks, and 3 steals in a 24-hour timespan.

  • 12/21- Embiid Scores 53 points vs the Hornets

    And then there was the early December game where Embiid dropped 53 on the Hornets. His second of 3 50 points games this season. This time it was with a 62.5 field goal percentage. And despite the narrative that Embiid is a “free-throw merchant” he only had 11 Fts in the game. So even without the FTs, he still would have dropped 42. To go with the 53 points he had 12 rebounds and 3 assists.

  • 1/22- Embiid Starts the New Year with Yet Another 40 point game

    New year, same Embiid. Embiid rang in the new year by dropping 42 on the Pelicans. He made 15 of 24 shots, grabbed 11 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. He carried the Sixers to a 120-111 win. Only Embiid can make scoring 40 look easy. But that is just what he did some nights. Centers usually don’t do what Embiid has done this season.

     

     

  • 12/23- 44 points in first meeting with the Clippers

    Two nights before Christmas, Embiid gave us all an Early Christmas present. 44 of them. Embiid killed the Clippers when they came to Philly. He shot 18-30 from the field, and again, needed just 7 FTs to put up 40. Only 7 rebounds, but he did have 3 assists and 2 blocks to go with it. It helped the Sixers beat the Clippers 119-114. It was their 7th win in an 8-game winning streak.

  • 1/17- Not Done With the Clippers Yet

    A little under a month later, Embiid did it to the Clippers again. This time with 41 points on a 54.5% shooting night. He had 9 rebounds to go with that, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. it was the third game of their west coast road trip, making it even more impressive.

  • 1/28- Embiid Puts Himself at the Top of MVP Conversation With Dominant performance vs Jokic

    Going into this game, Jokic was considered by far the favorite to win MVP. Things started to change after what Embiid did vs him though. 47 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals. He also shot 58.% from the field. All to help his team beat the 1 seed in the West by a score of 126-119. On the other end, Jokic scored just 24 points. Embiid looks like a lock to win MVP now, and this was the game that started the shift toward him winning.

  • 2/23- Embiid Has a Block Party vs the Grizzlies

    Embiid’s game vs the Grizzlies was not his best from an offensive standpoint. But it was his defense that helped the Sixers beat Memphis. 6 total blocks. Including this one on Ja Morant.

    The great thing about Embiid is even when his shot is not working, he can still score 27. But he will also make an impact on the defensive end.

  • 3/6- Dropped 42 on the Pacers

    But getting back to games where he dominates on the offensive side, he was all over the Pacers when they traveled out to Indiana in early March. 42 points with a 68.8% field goal rate. He also got Myles Turner to foul out, which is nothing new. Turner has now fouled out against Embiid 3 times in his acreer. It was Embiid’s 11th 40 pt game of the season.

  • 2/25- Sixers Lose, But Embiid Shows up Vs the Celtics

    It came in a loss, but Embiid’s performance vs the Celtics in late February is worth admiring. He did everything in his power to win. Unfortunately other than Harden and Harris, none of his other teammates did anything that night, so the Sixers lost. But 41 pts, 12-21 shooting, 5 assists, and 3 blocks is a hell of an effort by Embiid. He was also a fraction of a second from hitting a full-court game-tying shot. Unfortunately, it was still on his fingertips as the clock expired.

  • All of his Other 40 point Games

    That makes for 10 of his 40 pts games, but he had 3 more. Unfortunately, they all came in Sixers’ losses. But Embiid still deserves credit for what he did as an individual in those games.

    10/22 vs Spurs- 40pts/ 13 rebounds/ 3 assists/ 2 blocks/ 56 FG%

    12/27 @ Wizards- 48pts/ 10 rebounds/ 1 assist/ 1 block/ 53.1 FG%

    3/24 @ Warriors- 46pts/ 9 rebounds/ 8 assists/ 2 steals/ 1 block 56.5%
