2nd Annual Nate DeTample Scholarship Culinary Fundraiser
April 18, 2012 12:00 AM - 12:00 AM
Yardley, PAThe Yardley Inn proudly hosted the 1st Annual Nate DeTample Scholarship Fundraiser last year with a special cooking class by Executive Chef Eben Copple on September 27, 2011. Thanks to much interest and such great camaraderie on the day of the event, the Inn is hosting a second iteration of this fun culinary affair in honor and in memory of Army Pfc. Nathaniel E. DeTample, Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment (Mechanized), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This year’s fundraiser takes place on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 7 p.m.
In all aspects of life, Nate DeTample worked hard and aimed at making a difference. He was an Eagle Scout as well as a wrestling letterman. Nate finished Army basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia between his junior and senior years of high school. After he graduated from Pennsbury High School in 2004, he continued his studies at Shippensburg University, pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. He wanted nothing more than to make the world a safer place.
Nate received the call to go to Iraq with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard during his second semester at Shippensburg. He was killed in action outside of Bayji, Iraq on August 9, 2005. Nate DeTample will always be remembered as a loving and kind young man who constantly had a smile on his face. He even served his country with a smile.
Chef Eben will prepare one of his most popular dishes and guests will each receive a complimentary glass of wine. Guests will enjoy a special evening of culinary instruction with recipes to take home, this time featuring the Yardley Inn’s popular Crab Cakes and Jicama Slaw.
In honor of Army Pfc. Nathaniel E. DeTample, Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment (Mechanized), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, all proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation’s Endowed Namesake Scholarship for Nate DeTample.
