The fighter who took the MMA world by storm in 2020 is finally returning to the octogan after a bout with COVID and hes got a big test in front of him with streaking Li Jingliang. Li "The Leach" is 8-2 in his last 10 fights and beat a very tough Santiago Ponzinibbio in his last fight. Jingliang has shown growth in his game, and the good news for him is Chimaev CLEARLY had a tough weight cut, as he had to weigh in twice. So if Jingliang can land a well placed punch, it can put the dehydrated Chimaev to sleep. But thats the problem that everyone whos faced Chimaev has had. Landing a punch. And im not even talking about a well timed shot. Im talking A. Punch. ONE. Chimaev has dismantled opponents on his way to a 9-0 record without being hit. He takes his opponents down and mauls them like a bigger Khabib. Even with the tough weight cut, I dont think Jingliang is on his level. Khamzat Chimaev (lock) Alexander Volkov vs.Marcin Tybura Shout out to Marcin Tybura who will always be a legend in my book https://twitter.com/mmamania/status/1340458134930907136?s=20 And that Greg Hardy TKO is in the middle of his current 6-0 streak. But hes got a huge step up in competition that hes not ready for. Alexander Volkov has only lost to the BEST heavy weights in the division. Gane, Blaydes, Lewis. Tybura is a B level heavyweight. Volkov is a top 5 heavy weight. Volkov picks him apart from the outside. Alexander Volkov (lock) Dan Hooker vs. Islam Makhachev Dan Hooker is a G for this. Instead of heading home, and seeing his family, he told the UFC "ill fight Makhachev" and now he might not see his family for 5-6 months because of New Zealand's quarantine rules. Makhachev was looking for a new opponent when RDA dropped out of the fight, and Makhachev has been so dominant that hes had trouble finding opponents. But Hooker was game ready. This coming off a "I'm Back!" performance when he beat Nasrat Haqparast last month. But even though I respect Hooker for taking this fight, I cant pick him. The last time he fought a wrestling heavy fighter, he got KO'd because he looked like he was waiting for the shot (Chandler.) I worry that we see the same thing in this one. Maybe not as much "deer in the headlights." but Makhachev mauling him for 3 rounds. Islam Makhachev  Petr Yan vs. Cory Sandhagen I love Cory Sandhagen, but Petr Yan is on another level. Petr Yan is the champion. Hes getting his belt back (albeit a fake belt) on Saturday. Petr Yan (lock) Jan Blachowicz (C) vs. Glover Teixeira Glover Teixeira is well deserving of this title fight, as hes riding a 6 fight win streak. But hes facing the legendary "Polish Power." Since losing to Thiago Santos in 2019 Blachwicz has went on a tear. A streak thats seen him capture the title AND give Israel Adesanya his first loss when Adesanya moved up. But Teixeira is a grizzled vet who knows how to take a punch and weather a storm. The Anthony Smith fight is a prime example. Teixeira got worked for 2 rounds (BADLY) and came back to destroy Smith. But Blachowicz is patient. Looking for the shot to come to him. And ive made the mistake of doubting the Polish Power before, Im not making that mistake again.
