After nearly three decades as the booming voice inside the arena, Matt Cord has announced that he will retire as the PA Announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Matt shared the news this morning in a post on X, reflecting on the long run that made him one of the most recognizable voices in Philadelphia sports.

“After 28 years as the PA announcer for the Sixers I’m officially retiring at the end of the season,” he wrote. “I’ve had the best seat in the house announcing for the best fans in the world. Thank you to the players and the 76ers organization. What a privilege it’s been.”

Matt’s voice has been at the core of the gameday experience for generations of Sixers fans. He brought the crowd to their feet with his one-of-a-kind introductions. Iconic names like THE PROCESSSSS.....EMMMM-BIIIIID-biiiiddd-biiiiidd-biiiiid ,TYREEEEEESE MAXEYYYYY,  J.J. RRRRRRRREDICK and Andre Igua-DOLLA….DOLLA….DOLLA…

And The Answer. ALL-EN I-VER-SON.

His tenure spans multiple eras of Sixers basketball. Cord began announcing during the late 1990s and remained the voice of the team through unforgettable moments, including the electrifying run led by Allen Iverson and the team’s appearance in the 2001 NBA Finals. Through rebuilding years and playoff pushes alike, his voice stayed constant inside the arena.

Beyond the court, Matt is also a longtime legend on the Philadelphia airwaves. Listeners have heard him locally on 93.3 WMMR, Y100 WPLY, and 102.9 WMGK over as many years.

Don’t worry! You can still listen to Matt Cord daily from 10:30am – 3pm on 93.3 WMMR. He stepped into the midday slot that was held for decades by the one and only Pierre Robert.

Matt Cord fans, we encourage you to catch a Sixers game before he announces his final lineup this spring. And keep your radio dial and streams set to WMMR all day long.
