The Philadelphia Eagles plan to kick off a new season by making history on their sidelines.
As the season begins, the Birds are welcoming three men to the team's cheerleading squad. This number represents the largest contingent of male cheerleaders the team has ever had.
"Just having the opportunity to do this is life-changing for all of us," said James LeGette, an Eagles cheerleader who will begin his fifth season with the team this year, to Action News 6 Philadelphia.
As LeGette and his teammates gear up to cheer on the Eagles, they'll be supporting two new male cheerleaders joining the squad: Alex Fan and Dalton Walsh, both of whom are newbies.
"It's really been a pleasure to be on a team that has multiple boys where we can fall back on each other," Fan commented.
The Minnesota Vikings, however, are facing a different reaction to the male cheerleaders on their squad. Action News 6 reported that two members of the Minnesota Vikings cheerleader squad have been targeted with negative online comments after the team posted a video showing the squad performing a cheerleading routine.
The addition of males to NFL teams' cheerleading squads is not new. About one-third of the teams have male cheerleaders. The Eagles had four between 1980 and 2021, according to Action News 6 Philadelphia.
