Beaver Stadium is only just over four weeks away from hosting a Penn State home game, and construction on the nearly $700 million stadium renovations is almost complete.
The stadium is set to be turned back over to Penn State's athletics department on Saturday, Aug. 16. The Nittany Lions will hold their home opener against Nevada on Saturday, Aug. 30.
When the stadium reopens, fans will notice temporary seating in place on the stadium's west side and in the northeast and southeast corners.
According to a Centre Daily Times report, plans for the complete project will offer new restrooms in the facility, an upgraded concessions and seating area, enhanced lighting, a renovated press box, and a new welcome center for visitors to the stadium. Hardscape replacement at the stadium will allow better traffic flow and alleviate backups at stadium concourses and in exterior plazas.
More changes are to come over the next two years, with completion of all work at the stadium expected for the start of the 2027 Penn State football season.
“As I enter my 12th year at Penn State, it remains a tremendous honor to lead this program and this remarkable fan base,” Nittany Lions coach James Franklin said on Wednesday, July 23, during the Big Ten Media Days. “Beaver Stadium will look a little bit different. I think you guys know we're in the middle of a stadium project that will not be done this year. We'll have another year we'll have to get through with that, but we expect Beaver Stadium to be rocking like it always is.”
The Nittany Lions will play home games during four of the first five weeks of the college football season. The season's signature event, the White Out against Oregon, will take place at the end of September.
