Philadelphia's Fashion District has been chosen as the primary center for all volunteer operations leading up to and during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement was made on Monday, July 28, by Philadelphia Soccer 2026.
Philadelphia Soccer 2026 is anticipating needing approximately 3,000 volunteers during the FIFA World Cup. Individuals interested in volunteering can apply at volunteer.fifa.com.
The shopping mall, on Market Street in Center City, was identified as the ideal spot for the event's volunteer hub because of its location near hotels and public transportation. The area also contains more than 3,100 parking spots, according to a news release from Philadelphia Soccer 2026.
In a statement shared with CBS News Philadelphia, Mayor Cherelle Parker said securing the Fashion District of Philadelphia for the 2026 FIFA World Cup events "represents a significant victory for our city."
"The center will not only help power critical volunteer efforts supporting FIFA World Cup 2026 but also generate significant economic activity for our local businesses, restaurants, and hotels," she stated. "We are proud to support this effort and the thousands of volunteers who will ensure that next summer's tournament is a success."
Philadelphia is one of 11 U.S. cities scheduled to host World Cup matches next year. The city will hold six matches in June and July, including a Round of 16 match on the Fourth of July to coincide with the 250th anniversary celebration of the United States.
