After close to four decades of team ownership, Craig Stein has sold the Reading Fightin Phils to Diamond Baseball Holdings. The organization owns more than 30 minor-league teams across the United States.
According to WFMZ-TV 69 News, the new ownership of the Fightin Phils intends to uphold the team's legacy in Baseballtown. The company did not disclose the team's sale price.
"Reading has been on our target list for a really long time. We consider it one of the best Double-A clubs and frankly one of the best minor-league teams in the country," said Peter Freund, CEO of Diamond Baseball Holdings, in a statement shared with WFMZ-TV. "We're not coming in to rewrite the script. You're still going to see the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor firing hot dogs into the stands. The experience will still feel the same."
Freund further confirmed that the staff would not change, stating that many individuals have dedicated decades of their careers to serving the organization.
Reading is the first Phillies affiliate to join Diamond Baseball Holdings' portfolio. By making a long-term investment in the team, Freund said his organization will preserve the history, tradition, and community aspect that defines a Baseballtown experience for fans at FirstEnergy Stadium.
