Philadelphia might have a third of the TVs as New York has, but we can push merchandise sales like no other market. Case in point, Saquon Barkley leading the NFL in merch sales, with Jalen Hurts coming in 3rd.
Barkley led all RBs with 2005 yards last season. Enough to make him a finalist for MVP, and enough to win NFL Offensive Player Of The Year.
The calendar year for sales is measured from March 1st, 2024, to February 28th, 2025. Saquon only signed with the Eagles on March 13th, 2024, so he had 12 fewer days to push Jerseys than Patrick Mahomes, who finished second after leading the league last season.
It is also worth noting that after Saquon, there are then 5 QBs before you see another non-QB. Mahomes, Hurts, Jayden Daniels, Josh Allen, and CJ Stroud. And none of the other 4 QBS shared the spotlight with a teammate, cracking the top 10.
Winning a Super Bowl certainly helps. It is a whole new crop of jerseys being pushed out. You not only need the standard Saquon Barkley or Jalen Hurts jersey, but you also need a Kelly Green Jersey with the Super Bowl patch, on top of the normal Kelly Green jersey you already owned.
While Jersey Sales make up a large portion of these sales, the rankings also include products like decals, bobbleheads, helmets, backpacks, and other forms of apparel. Wall Decals of Barkley's reverse hurdle certainly helped pump up his merchandise sales. Only official NFL Merchandise counts towards the numbers, no knockoffs included.
Barkley is the 1st RB top top this list since Ezekiel Elliot topped the list in 2017. Just the latest effort by Saquon to destroy the narrative that RBs don't matter.
