Amid an injury-ridden season for the Sixers, Maxey proved to be the team's most consistent force. "He was the only one of the Sixers' purported Big Three to play with any modicum of consistency," said The Ringer staff to Sports Illustrated. “(He even managed to put his quick hands to use on defense this season, becoming one of the league's top steals men.)”
Maxey's speed and skill were repeatedly on display. "Maxey has juice," The Ringer wrote. "He doesn't run so much as he zips around the court, like an electric car, and he covers ground in an instant — whether he's pushing in transition, relocating off a pass, or dusting his defender on the perimeter. He's a good shooter, despite subpar percentages this season, with a stepback so sharp it can cut glass and range that extends by the year."
The 23-year-old guard averaged 26.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds across 52 games before injuries sidelined him late in the season. His responsibility shift was enormous during Jon Embiid and Paul George's extended absences, where Maxey had to carry the offense and lead the team both on and off the floor. He had four 40-point games and then took on a mentor role for younger players like Adem Bona and Justin Edwards with a roster in flux.
Maxey's performance provided a silver lining as Philadelphia's season, which had championship aspirations, was prematurely ended. His play, leadership, and energy, and progress have given fans reasons to be excited about the future of the 2025-26 season.
With Embiid and George expected to return healthy, and Maxey already training, the Sixers hope to rejoin the contender ranks in the Eastern Conference.
Embiid and George were not left off the list despite injury-riddled seasons. Embiid came in at 84 with George ranked 90th.
