The Phillies and Braves were scheduled to play Wednesday night. But with rain in the forecast, and no signs of it stopping, game 2 of the series got washed out.
The two teams will now play a day-night doubleheader. The game scheduled for tonight will now be played at 1:05 on Thursday, and the 6:45 game on Thursday will remain as scheduled. Tickets for tonight's game will still be honored for the 1:05 game.
Tuesday night's game caused quite the controversy after a Spencer Strider pitch inside hit Bryce Harper in his surgically repaired elbow. The Phillies removed him from the game, but the X-rays later came back negative. The injury is listed as an elbow contusion. But the Phillies never retaliated by hitting one of the Braves' hitters. Which led to a debate that overtook sports talk today.
Will they eventually retaliate? Now we will have to wait until Thursday at 1:05 to find out.
They took game 1 to improve to 35-19. 1.5 games ahead of the Mets, and 9.5 games ahead of the Braves. Their .648 winning percentage is currently the highest in the league. Though they have played two fewer games than the Tigers, that have the 2nd-best record.
Following the double header on Thursday, the Milwaukee Brewers come to town, before the Phillies head off on another road trip, starting in Toronto.
The Phillies provided more information on tonight's postponement here.
