Win Or Lose, SB 59 Will Not Be Lane Johnson’s Swan Song
Lane Johnson enters Super Bowl 59 with very little else left to prove in the NFL. He has 2 1st Team All-Pros, 3 2nd Team All-Pros, 6 Pro-Bowls, and a Lombardi trophy. Since entering the league in 2013 Lane has been among the best Tackles in the league.
Over 158 games played and 6,480 Pass Blocking snaps, he has given up just 32 sacks. 11 of those came in his rookie season. Since then he has never given up double-digit sacks again, and has more seasons where he gave up 1 or fewer sacks than seasons where he gave up 2 or more. In 9 of his 12 seasons, he gave up 30 or fewer pressures. Under 2 pressures allowed per game.

The point is that he is very good. Based on what he has already done, he is a no-doubt Hall of Fame player. You could easily argue he is the best Offensive Lineman in Eagles history, which is a high bar given we just saw Jason Kelce retire, and Jason Peters spent the bulk of his career here.
Lane Johnson Is Not Going Anywhere Yet
Given his age, and his history of injuries (that he mostly played through) there has been some fear that SB59 could be his swan song. But Eagles fans need not worry about replacing a legendary Eagles Offensive Lineman 2 seasons in a row. Lane Johnson spoke to the media on Saturday and made it clear he is not done with Football yet.
“I’m definitely not retiring after this game win or lose… That is how you take it when you get up there in age, you take it 1 year at a time. I feel a lot better than I have over the past couple of years. This late in the year it is not usually like that.
Even at 34, Lane Johnson had 1 of his best seasons yet in 2024. 0 sacks, and only 12 pressures allowed. His 2022 season, where he put up similar stats despite 100 more pass block snaps, might be the only season of his that was better than this year.
Lane missed 1 game this year with a concussion, but otherwise, this was one of his healthiest seasons. Remember, this is the same guy who played through a torn pec back in 2022. Lane himself said he feels better this year than he has in a long time, and it shows.
Now we know he will run it back for at least 1 more year, maybe more. No matter what the result is on Super Bowl Sunday, Lane Johnson isn’t going anywhere yet.
