Eagles “Slow Start” On Offense Not A Real Issue Vs Bengals
The Eagles getting off the slow starts on offense has been a talking point all year long. 7 games in, they still have zero points. Not exactly a pretty stat. For most of the games, it is an accurate statement to say they started slow. After 6 games, they averaged just over 10 yards per drive in the first 2 drives of the game.
But because the Eagles technically did not score again in the 1st quarter vs the Bengals, there are still people talking about “slow starts.” This is despite the fact they did score points on their first drive and scored a TD on their 3rd drive. It just so happened their first drive carried over into the 2nd quarter because the Bengals first drive lasted 10 minutes. And their 3rd drive didn’t come until the end of the 2nd quarter.
It is hard to score when you don’t have the ball. Their first drive didn’t start until there were only 5 minutes to go in the quarter. They moved the ball, but because they were in no rush, the first quarter ended mid-drive.
Now you could still say they haven’t scored in the 1st quarter. but that would be ignoring all of the context of the game. The Bengals were having long extended drives. They were burning the clock. The Eagles only had 3 drives in the first half and scored on 2 of them. That is not a slow start.
The Best Show Ever Debunks Eagles Slow Start Nonsense
So when The Best Show Ever was hearing people complain about another “slow start” they couldn’t hold back. Tyrone, Ricky, and Sylvana explained just how little sense it makes to say the Eagles had another “slow start.”
“I’m done with the slow start thing. It’s not the offense’s fault. They scored their first drive. They didn’t get the ball…
It’s not Kellen Moore’s, Jalen Hurts’, Nick Sirianni’s, or any of those guys’ fault that the Bengals had the ball on a 17-play drive where they went five for five on third down. You notice as soon as they started giving the Eagles offense more opportunities, they were scoring. They still scored their first drive…
If that’s an 8-minute drive rather than a 10-minute drive… The Eagles would have scored in the first quarter. But since the drive lasted ten minutes, what are they supposed to do? What he’s supposed to do is go down the field and score. That’s what they did.”
