Nick Sirianni Has Completely Lost It But Eagles Find Way To Win
It’s amazing that an Eagles win after a bye week with plenty of bizarre storylines to discuss but Nick Sirianni made himself the top talking point. First we get the shaved head pregame and then the screaming at opposing players during the game. Afterwards, he’s jawing at the fans in the stands and the postgame presser was the grand finale. I’ve lost all faith in the man and his ability to lead. If you don’t see that there is a leadership issue at the Novacare Complex I don’t know what you are watching.
Nick Sirianni can’t truly be trusted
”We’ve got it, we will get it figured out” is no longer a valid answer. They were 10-1 last season and finished out 1-6. He doesn’t deserve our trust because he hasn’t earned it. He lost the benefit of the doubt with that finish in January and nothing seems to have improved. The Browns were an easy 5 foot two putt and they made it scary. His performance continues to be shaky as a leader. He isn’t composed on the sideline again and his maturity level is in question.
Then came the press conference
What I saw and heard from Nick Sirianni post-game was a complete disaster. First he trots out his children to the podium and proceeds to use them as human shields. They were deflecting attention off of him and a performance that once again seems inadequate despite the win. He didn’t really answer questions, he just filibustered through rambling diatribes and proceeded to redirect questions at his own children. It was uncomfortable and unprofessional. It had to be alarming for Jeffrey Lurie and the Executive team.
Hey! I’ve seen THAT version of Jalen Hurts before!
Thankfully it wasn’t all bad news! I thought Jalen Hurts played his best game vs the Browns. He had bigger numbers against the Packers but it was efficient and turnover free after a bumpy start. Hurts looked more decisive than ever when choosing to run the ball. I would consider that a very promising moment in what has been a shaky start to the season. Hopefully it’s just the start of something better and Hurts builds upon it.
Saquon was not a factor
I’m floored that Saquon Barkley did not play a bigger part in the victory. He was effective early but the team seemed to get less impactful running the ball in the second half. That will need to change before the Giants game next weekend. If they end up losing Jordan Mailata for a considerable period of time it could impact both the passing and rushing attack.
AJ Brown is the straw that stirs the drink
Welcome back AJ Brown. He just makes everyone else better! With him and Devonta Smith doing their thing the defenses should be softer for the running game to burn clock and give the defense a rest. Brown is unable to be stopped and his continued dominance will be essential. The absence of Dallas Goedert absolutely affected the Eagles’ game plan.
The youth on defense may be on a small improvement curve
I loved what I continue to see from Quinyon Mitchell at corner and fellow rookie Cooper Dejean looked pretty comfortable out there in the slot. Giving up less than 20 points in any NFL game is a strong showing no matter who the opponent is. Losing Darius Slay could be a huge blow if it’s serious.
