Nick Sirianni Is Still At The Wheel Of The Eagles Offense
Last year exposed the Nick Sirianni offense. Brian Johnson might have been the fall guy who lost his job, but he was not the one in charge of that anemic Eagles offense in 2023. Nick Sirianni designed the plays, he made the game plan, and Brian Johnson just called plays he thought Nick Sirianni would like.
That part is not an opinion by the way. There is a lot of reporting going into that. Tim McManus said it multiple times on this station. He said this after the season ended about how the people who knew Brian Johnson told him that the Eagles offense looks nothing like what he would run if he had any power.
Diana Russini later backed that claim up with a piece of her own in The Athletic that dived into the dynamic between Sirianni, Johnson, and Jalen Hurts. Other credible names like Andrew DiCecco and Jeff McLane shared the same sentiment. That was Nick Sirianni’s offense.

After it failed last season, we heard there were changes being made. They hired Kellen Moore and told us that it would be his offense. He would design the playbook and call the plays, with Sirianni becoming more of a CEO head coach. Sirianni was not supposed to have the same sway over the design of the offense that he had in his first 3 seasons here.
But 4 games in things look very similar to how they looked last year. There are some new things, but it has more in common with the offense we saw last year, than the Moore offenses we saw in Dallas/ LA.
Nick Sirianni Still Meddling In The Offense
If you need any proof of that, just look at how little they are using motion. After 4 weeks, they are 19th in pre-snap motion. Last year in LA Moore was 9th.
Nick Sirianni has talked about “collaborative playcalling.” He said he is still calling some plays. Combine that, with the data about them not using as much pre-snap motion as we assumed they would given they hired an OC known for pre-snap motion. It is quite clear Sirianni still has his fingers all over this offense.
That is not to say let Moore off the hook. Brian Johnson didn’t get let off the hook. This is not to say let Jalen Hurts off the hook. Despite the uninspired play design, he should still be better. But Nick Sirianni is still holding back this offense.
You hired Kellen Moore because he is supposed to be a great offensive mind. Give him the keys, and let him drive. No more “collaboration” when it comes to calling plays. No more calling plays here and there for Sirianni.
Maybe Moore isn’t as good as we thought. But let him prove that one way or the other. We saw what Sirinani is capable of, and it failed. But despite what we were told, Sirianni is clearly still a major influence over the way this Eagles offense is run. That is not a good thing, the struggles of the offense last year are proof of that.
