Eagles Open The Practice Window For Avonte Maddox
One of the biggest injuries for the Eagles this season could arguably be the loss of starting Nickel Corner Avonte Maddox. He went down in week 2 with a torn pec. The word at the time was it may keep him out all season. And they have felt his loss in a major way. They have tried out several guys in the slot, and none have filled in very well. But they got some good news this week. Earlier today the Eagles designated Maddox for return from the IR. Which opens up a 21-day practice window.
Maddox practiced with the team today. At any point in the 21 days he can return from the IR. But if he is not activated by the time that window is over, he won’t be able to return at all. The simple fact they have taken this step though, tells you they are confident he can be back soon.
The Eagles have been picked on over the middle of the field all season long. Slot WRS and TEs have consistently given them trouble. And fill-ins like Bradley Roby, Mario Goodrich, Eli Ricks, and Sydney Brown have been inconsistent at best. Avonte Maddox could help fix all of that though. Maddox made the move inside two years ago and has excelled in that role ever since.
Getting him back this week for the Christmas game vs the Giants is unlikely. But seeing him for the Cardinals game, or the second Giants game could be realistic. And having him back for the playoffs seems almost a given now given this move, barring a setback. Especially if he is back on the practice field.
Not much has gone well for the Eagles recently. But this is finally one piece of good news. And something that could actually help fix one of their biggest issues on defense.
