The sputtering Philadelphia Eagles desperately need to get back on track on Monday Night Football in Week 15. History suggests their schedule didn’t hand them a good opponent in a desperate spot. The Eagles own a brutal record against the Seattle Seahawks.

The two NFC franchises have never developed a rivalry. They’ve both appeared in three Super Bowls during the 21st century and won their first and only ring. However, the head-to-head competition isn’t remotely close.

Eagles Own Terrible Record Against Seahawks

A 27-10 laugher at Veterans Stadium in December 1976 had the Eagles feeling confident about their future chances against the expansion Seahawks. They earned a 4-1 record in the first five matchups between the two teams through 1992. Recent history hasn’t cooperated.

The Eagles are 3-11 in their last 14 games against the Seahawks since 1995. The streak includes a seven-game losing streak and nine losses in their last 10. Seattle hasn’t traveled to Philadelphia and lost since 1989.

All Eagles Head Coaches Struggle

Doug Pederson finished with an 0-5 record and a -47 point differential against the Seahawks as Eagles head coach. The best season in franchise history in 2017 only included two losses in competitive games, yet the Eagles couldn’t find a way to defeat a Seahawks team that finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs.

The 2019 Eagles lost to Seattle by identical 17-9 scores in Week 12 and the NFC Wild Card Round.

Chip Kelly only faced Seattle once, but it was a forgettable afternoon. Mark Sanchez finished with 96 passing yards in an embarrassing 24-14 loss in December 2014.

Andy Reid won his first two matchups and ultimately finished 3-3 against the NFC West foe. However, a loss in 2005 is the lasting memory of Reid’s matchups against Seattle. Philadelphia fans will never forget losing 42-0 on Monday Night Football on a night the organization set up a halftime tribute to the late Reggie White.

That blowout somehow topped a 38-0 opening day loss to the Seahawks in 1998. Ray Rhodes slipped to 0-2 against them in his final season with the Eagles.

Nick Sirianni, 2023 Eagles

What does this all mean for the 2023 Philadelphia Eagles? Not all that much.

Nick Sirianni has never faced Seattle. Jalen Hurts played two snaps on offense behind Carson Wentz in 2020 the last time these two teams played.

Pederson always struggled against Pete Carroll, one of the most accomplished head coaches in the NFL. However, the franchise’s identity changed when Russell Wilson left Seattle in 2022.

The Eagles had never lost to the New York Jets in the history of the two respective franchises entering 2023. Look at how much that mattered in Week 6.

The law of averages alone might give Nick Sirianni a chance to outperform his four predecessors.

The Philadelphia Eagles now face the heaviest adversity of the 2023 NFL season. The San Francisco 49ers dominated in a 42-19 blowout on Dec. 3. The Dallas Cowboys followed it up with a 33-13 blowout on Sunday Night Football on Dec. 10. The Eagles have been more worried about how to rest starters than win games in the fourth quarter of their past two, and they desperately need to rebound in Week 15.

Eagles Suffer Losses Against 49ers, Cowboys

The two-game losing streak has sent shockwaves of panic throughout the fan base, and the defense can't seem to stop anyone. How will the Eagles respond against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football?

It looked bad at Lincoln Financial Field against the 49ers. However, it got a lot worse in Dallas.

The Eagles have struggled with the same weaknesses throughout the 2023 season, and their last two opponents have exposed their flaws brutally. There will be no rest in this brutal stretch of strong opponents.

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia offense finished with three turnovers in Dallas. Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith were all guilty of costly fumbles that helped sink the Eagles to 10-3.

Nick Sirianni has begun his NFL head coaching career with a 33-14 record in regular-season games. However, he now faces the greatest challenge of his tenure with the Eagles.

Projected Philadelphia Eagles Week 15 Starters

Dallas Goedert and Zach Cunnigham returned to the starting lineup against the Cowboys. The reinforcements came at a much-needed time.

Shaq Leonard played his first game with the Eagles. He didn't immediately jump into the starting lineup, but he could get the call in Seattle. Nicholas Morrow played 78% of the defensive snaps at linebacker in Dallas while Leonard only played 17%.

Reed Blankenship left the game early, and he will have to clear concussion protocol to dress against the Seahawks. Sydney Brown filled in at safety after the injury, and he figures to get the start if Blankenship can't go.

With the need for a bounce-back effort, Sirianni hopes to have his roster at full strength.
