The Eagles Continue To Fall Well Short of ‘The Standard’
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - DECEMBER 10: Head coach Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles is seen on the sideline during the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on December 10, 2023 in Arlington, Texas.
All season long we have heard the Eagles talk about living up to the standard. Even after wins, they talked about needing to do better. But there continued to be issues. They had major flaws on defense, issues in the Red Zone, and coughed up way too many turnovers. Fans put up with it because the team was winning. They beat teams like the Dolphins, Chiefs, Cowboys, and Bills. But now they have lost two games in a row. And not just lost, but got their teeth kicked in. Those same flaws that seemed like small problems in their close wins, became glaring issues. And it led to a loss tonight to the Cowboys.
3 fumbles. All on what would have been big positive plays had they held onto the ball. Their secondary had been struggling. Well, tonight the Cowboys picked them apart through the air, and drew several DPIs to go with it. To the defense’s credit, they played far better in the second half. But the hole was too big, and the offense scored just 6 points. Even the things they used to do well, like rush the passer, run the ball, and stop the run, they are now struggling with.
At a certain point, you have to prove there is a higher standard to live up to. Because it is week 14, and you are still making the same mistakes. Only now they are catching up to you in the form of two straight blowout losses.
If there is any good news, the Eagles can still control their destiny in the NFC East. Win these last 4 games, and you are in regardless of what Dallas does. And Dallas has a harder final 4 games than anyone in the NFL. But just making the playoffs is not the goal. Winning the NFC East is not the goal. A Super Bowl is. That is the standard they set for themselves last year. And right now, they do not look like a team that is capable of living up to it.

What The Eagles Would Look Like If They Could Only Use Local Players
This week we have looked at what both the Phillies and Sixers would look like if they could only use local players. The Phillies were a top-heavy mess, with 6-star players and not much else. It turned out a bit better for the Sixers. Not well enough that they would be competing for a championship. Will it go better for the Eagles though? Can we put together a Super Bowl roster made out of guys who come from Eastern Pa, South Jersey, and Delaware?
High school and College Football is nowhere near as big up here as it is down south. Which is why you tend to see a lot of the best Football players hail from those southern states. But that doesn’t mean there is no talent to be found around here. And unlike baseball, Football can actually be played year-round in our area.
The Eagles may actually be the team that wound up with the best roster in this experiment. Not a perfect roster by any means, and there are some big holes. But in this current NFL, with how flawed most teams are, they could maybe make some noise. Their WR, RB, and DL room could even be called elite. They may struggle in pass coverage. But with their edge rushers, QBs won’t have much time to find open WRs. And they will be very hard to run on.
The rules are if you are closer to Philly than any other team’s city, you qualify to play for the Eagles. So even if something feels more like New York territory, or Pittsburgh territory, if you can get into a car and drive to Philly faster than you can get to the other city city, you are an Eagle.
