Week 6 Power Rankings Round Up- Eagles Finally Have A Complete Game

All season, we have been asking for the Eagles to have a complete game. One where the passing game, run game, and defense all work at the same time. They came close in week 3 vs the Bucs, but there were still some concerning signs from the passing attack in that one. But finally, in week 5, the Eagles hit on all cylinders. Yes, you would like them to do better in the Red Zone. But they had over 300 passing yards, over 100 rushing yards, and held the Rams to under 300 total yards. And it came against perhaps their best opponent yet in the Rams. Now they head into week 6 undefeated, with a game against the Jets up next.

They are slowly starting to look like the team we saw last season. And the emergence of Bradley Roby, who came into the game in the 2nd half, could make a big difference for the Eagles. Roby and Eli Ricks helped shut down the Rams' passing attack in the second half after Mario Goodrich got burned pretty badly in the first half.

So now they are 5-0, and only just starting to play their best football. It is now two straight weeks with over 300 passing yards for Jalen Hurts. 3 straight weeks with over 100 yards for AJ Brown. And the defense has held the other team under 300 yards and 20 points in 2 of the last 3 weeks, with a bad game vs the Commanders stuck in the middle.

So is this improved play getting the Eagles more praise from the National Media? Or are they still too obsessed with the early-season darlings to notice the Eagles getting better?

As we do every week, let's run through where the Eagles fell in all of the Power Rankings heading into week 6 to see how the National Media feels about the Eagles right now:

ESPN- 2 – (Previously 2)

Goedert’s breakout in game 5 was one of the biggest takeaways from the win. But now it was Devonta Smith being left out. As long as they keep putting up big stats as a team it shouldn’t matter much if one guy has a quiet game. But it would be nice to finally see Goedert, Smith, and AJ Brown all have good games at the same time.

NFL Network- 2 (Previously 4)

That 32-second drive was the most impressive thing they did all year. Yes, it needed a couple of penalties to happen. But the Eagles' aggressiveness is why they got those penalties. And the bold decision to do a Tush Push instead of taking the gimme field goal is why they got 7 and not 3. That drive is why there should be no concerns that this is still one of the best offenses in the league.

The Athletic- 2 (Previously 2)

Thank you. For all the talk of Eagles “struggles” they still have elite play on both sides of the line. That is why they made it to the Super Bowl last year. And it is why they will still be in the mix vs any team they play this year. And that Tush Push only works as well as it does because of the O-Line. We see teams with lesser O-Lines, like the Giants, screwing it up so badly they get hurt. Yet the Eagles run it 4 times per week and you never see anyone get hurt.

Pro Football Talk- 2 (Previously 2)

Weird how the Eagles get dinged for playing an “easy schedule”, but the 49ers, who have played the Giants, Cardinals, Steelers, and the same Rams team the Eagles just beat, get off the hook. Not saying the Eagles schedule has been hard. But the 49ers outside the Cowboys haven't played anyone that tough either

Sports Illustrated-2 (Previously 3)

We finally saw Hurts dominate with his legs in week 5. I’d be lying if I said the way he ran in the first 4 games wasn’t concerning. But he had multiple big first-down conversions with his legs. And that is just one more level to this Eagles offense teams need to worry about.

Bleacher Report- 2 (Previously 2)

The schedule does get tougher, but that is why we should not overlook the 5-0 start even if it hasn’t all been pretty. They are working out their issues, while winning, to prepare for a tough stretch. Meanwhile, many of those tough teams have had their own issues, that led to losses. The Bills' offense just got shut down in London and are now 3-2. The Cowboys got embarrassed by the Niners and are now 3-2. Meanwhile, the Eagles had those issues, but have no losses.

Yahoo Sports- 3 (Previously 3)

In terms of winning games, Hurts is in very rare company. Only Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, and Jim McMahon have 22 wins over a 23-game stretch the way Hurts does.

USA Today- 2 (Previously 3)

The Jets' defense is not to be taken lightly, but the offense outside of Breece Hall has been very bad. Luckily for the Eagles, the thing their defense does best is stop the run. They are number 1 in the league in rushing yards allowed.

Pro Football Network- 3 (Previously- 4)

They have a top 5 QB, D-Line, and WR Group, and the best O-line. You can beat anyone with those groups, no matter how much your linebackers and Safeties struggle. Also, there is no good case after 5 weeks to put the Chiefs above the Eagles in your Power Rankings.

CBS Sports- 2 (Previously 2)

The defense stepping up was the biggest takeaway. If Bradley Roby plays as well going forward as he did in the 2nd half on Sunday, it fixes a lot of issues for the Eagles. He and Eli Ricks came in and helped shut the Rams down for the rest of that game. Pass defense has been by far their biggest issue so far this season.
