Nick Castellanos Is NSFW…Or Is He?
After Nick Castellanos blooped a double in the fourth inning, he flipped a finger toward the Philadelphia Phillies dugout. It was part of the swagger the home team showed in a 4-1 victory over the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.
Was the Phillies outfielder flipping the middle finger? He could’ve fooled anyone on TV looking at a glance. However, fans who looked a little closer noticed something a little different.
Nick Castellanos NOT Giving the Middle Finger
The 2023 Phillies haven’t exactly kept things G-rated after they’ve reached base with a hit. The 26 adult men on the roster joke around with the “marbles” gesture to their teammates in the dugout regularly.
However, Castellanos made a gesture that pretty much anyone in Philadelphia would support.
Flipping his (empty) ring finger meant the Phillies weren’t satisfied with just making it to the World Series in 2022. He needs to put a ring on it, and the Phillies have now accomplished 1/13 of their postseason goal.
The heartbreak against the Houston Astros after a miraculous ride to the World Series in 2022 crushed the city of Philadelphia. However, a team with an incredibly strong connection to the city has a chance to shift the narrative.
Castellanos, Phillies Looking For World Series Ring
Castellanos spoke on the field after the Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 4-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the National League Wild Card Round.
“It’s just something that came out, honestly. Like, I didn’t think about it, but that’s why we’re here. That’s what this game’s about, right? This journey is to get that ring.” -Nick Castellanos
Who could’ve predicted that the guy who had a down season in 2022 after signing a lucrative free agent contract would bounce back to mesh with the Philadelphia fans this well?
Castellanos belted 29 home runs in his second season in Philadelphia in 2023. The fans welcomed the incredible improvement with open arms. They hope to see him parading down Broad Street in a few weeks with a finger that is no longer empty.
