The final game of the pre-season is finally in the books for the Eagles. They fell to the Colts, meaning they finished the Pre-Season without a win, not that the final score of any of these games matters. After playing just 6 snaps last year, none of the Eagles starters say a single snap this Pre-Season. Only rookies, second and third-stringers, and the RBs saw the field. Thankfully, that is over now. A little more than 2 weeks from now the Eagles will take the field for their first real game of the season. But before we get there, the Eagles need to make some cuts. 

53-Man rosters are due by 4 p.m. next Tuesday. So between now and then, there are going to be a lot of cuts. And last night's Colts game was the last chance for any of these fringe guys to make their case to get one of the few roster spots that is actually up for grabs.

This final game was even less eventful than the other two. So it is kind of hard to take anything from it. But what about the Pre-Season as a whole? Which players really stood out, for better or worse, in Training Camp and the Pre-Season Games? Has anyone come in and earned themselves a roster spot or role? Did some guys we thought were locks cost themselves a job?

With Pre-Season in the books, it is time for one last Eagles Stock Report before the regular season begins. Let's look at who has looked great, and who has done he most damage to their chances to make the roster. From the rookies who really impressed, to veterans who may now be on the chopping block.

Tanner McKee was not on a ton of fans' radar at the start of camp. But he has really shown us something through the 3 preseason games. Enough to call him the main backup? Probably not. There are still things he needs to work on, notably being more accurate on those quick throws just past the sticks. But the arm talent is clearly there. And he could grow into a solid backup given time.  

On the other hand, the Eagles' actual backup QB has not covered himself in glory this Pre-Season. He looked bad in game 1, worse in game 2, then barely had a chance to show anything in game 3. Evidently, he has not looked any better in practice. Nearly every throw is sailed over the head of his WR. With that said, he is still a great athlete. And when on the move, he has looked much better than when he is throwing from the pocket.

Despite the struggles, he is still locked in as the main backup. But we will be less confident now in his ability to step in for Hurts than we were when the Eagles first signed him.   

We had not heard much from him in camp. But he got a chance to return a kick in the final game. He bobbled it at first, which is not good. But then he quickly recovered, and had the most impressive kick return of the Summer for the Eagles. Was that enough to supplant Britain Covey as the primary return man? Probably not, at least not at the start of the season. But returning kicks and punts might be the best way to make use of his Olympic-level speed. And if Covey starts the season slowly, Allen might have made the case to come off of the practice squad and replace him eventually.  

There was decent hype for Joseph Ngata coming into camp. If any of these young WRs were going to make the case to be a 6th WR, it was him. But as was the case at Clemson, he just never used his athletic traits in the games themselves. He flashed in practice but showed very little in games. And he just may be one of those guys like Dorial Green Beckham, who has the size and speed to be a great WR, but for whatever reason it never translates to the field.

Fumbling the ball in the final game vs the Colts may have been the final nail in the coffin for him. But he should at least be able to stick around on the practice squad.

At times it feels like we hear Sydney Brown’s name more than anyone. Not just because he plays Safety and that is the position with the most questions for the Eagles, but also because he just makes a lot of plays. And while it seems he may not have won the starting job out of camp, a lot of the beat guys are under the impression he will eventually step into that role. And Tim McManus even told us he may see a lot of use in the Red Zone early on. By the season's end, expect Brown to have a significant role. 

Morrow came into camp as one of the starters. There is a chance he is not even on the team. It is not that he has been bad. But a few other guys have just stood out more. Zach Cunningham has certainly seemed to pass him on the depth chart, and Christian Elliss may have as well. Even some of the guys like Ben VanSumeran and Tyreek Maddox-Williams have flashed more than him. Morrow’s hope now needs to be that the Eagles will keep him as an extra linebacker.  

Josh Jobe quickly established himself as the main backup at outside corner. When James Bradberry was hurt early in camp, Jobe was getting his first-team reps. He went up against AJ Brown and did an admirable job. Yes, AJ Brown mossed him in Open Practice, but it was good coverage by Jobe. Eagles clearly have a lot of faith in him, and should there be any injuries, it is clear it will be Jobe filling in for either Slay or Bradberry. 

On one hand for Sills, he got his legal issues taken care of. He was facing rape charges and spent the end of last season, and all offseason on the exempt list. But a jury acquitted him. Now his biggest problem is how bad he has looked when on the field. Bad enough, that he may not have a job. The Eagles have already reworked Fred Johnson’s deal, signifying he will make the 53-man roster. We know Tyler Steen, Jack Driscoll, and Sua Opeta will make it. That just leaves Sills. Will they keep 10 Linemen? Would he even be the 10th guy if they do? It is not clear at this point. 

Ricks, a UDFA, may have just played himself into a roster spot like Josh Jobe did last year. He had the wow play of the Pre-season with his pick 6 vs. the Ravens and has been solid in coverage beyond that. Zech McPhearson getting hurt opens up a spot for someone, and it is likely between him and Mario Goodrich. Goodrich may be a better fit with his experience in the slot. But Ricks has played well enough that the Eagles may need to keep him, or else risk losing him to a waiver claim.  

He beat out Ty Zentner, but not because of anything he did well. Siposs has continued to struggle in camp. And now his competition is every single punter cut by another team. Zach Berman told us one thing he has going for him is that Jake Elliott trusts him as a holder. But if that is the only good thing you can say about him, it feels like his time here may be short.  

Everyone was excited about what Nolan Smith could bring to the team. The question this year though was how much of a role there could be with the Eagles already having so many great players off the edge. But Smith has done enough where you have to find him a role. That may mean fewer snaps for Graham, Sweat, and Reddick. But if you can have 4 dominant pass rushers off the edge, that just means all 4 of them can be that much fresher late in the season, and you don’t have to worry about running any of them into the ground.  

Ringo’s roster spot is in no danger. But there may not be much of a role for him this year. Several of the younger guys outperformed him in camp. His upside is clear, he has the size and speed to be a great corner. But he has stuff he needs to work on clearly. This may be a year where he sits on the bench, learns, then hopefully is ready to have a real role next year. 

Again, like Nolan Smith, this one was obvious. But Jalen Carter did everything in camp you would have wanted him to do to convince you he is the real deal. When he got onto the field in Pre-Season games he dominated. And in camp practices, we were constantly hearing about what he was doing. He might not begin the season as the starter, but by the end of it he may be the Eagles' most-used DT.
