This Phillies and Braves Series Will Be Must See TV
Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies celebrates with Nick Castellanos #8 after hitting a solo home run on the first pitch of the game in the top of the first inning against the Oakland Athletics
Anthony Gargano talked about how this Phillies- Braves Series Will Be Must See TV in his Opening Diatribe this morning:
“We have a big series. This is actually a great gift. We always talk about baseball as more of a companion than something you get looked into. It works with your schedule. The ball game is on, but you are doing something else with it. Every once in a while there is a matchup though it is must see TV. And we have a big 3-game series with Atlanta. Phillies man, this is going to be awesome. CBP, the ballpark will be rocking tonight.
Spencer Strider is on the mound. The Fightin’s are 38-34. they are just rolling right now. Ever since the song started. Play it!
(Cue Dancing on My Own)
They are only 8 behind the Braves. Atlanta is a great team. Their lineup rakes. Starts with Acuna. Then you have Olson. Guys like Rosario have power. You know about Austin Riley. They just come at you in waves. But so do the Phillies. Strider against the Ranger. And Ranger has been awesome. He has been great in his last 3 starts. Beat Arizona in 7 innings, no runs, and only 4 hits. The Dodgers have another great lineup. 6 innings, 4 hits, only 1 run. Against Washington before that 7 innings only 1 run. He has been pitching great.
And the last time we saw Stride, it was the best. Game 3, a Friday afternoon. Stride came out smoking. Until the Fightin’s wore him down. Next thing you know the spike happened. That was the game that propelled them.
3 days, 3 games, it is going to be a blast. I love the way the Phillies are playing, and this will be must see TV.”

7 Surprising Stats From The Phillies Season So Far
This has not been the easiest Phillies season for fans so far. Into June they were under .500, and out of the Wild Card. Much like last season, the Phillies got out of the gates slowly, creating a hole for them to dig out of. A lot of their star players struggled early on. Bryce Harper missed the first month of the season. And the starting rotation was a disaster in the first two months.
To their credit, things have been better lately. They won 7 of 8 before last night’s loss in Arizona. That did include 5 wins vs the lowly Nationals and Tigers. But they finished that homestand off with an impressive series win over the Dodgers. The bats picked up, and most of the starters looked great. It has them at 32-34 now. Trea Turner is starting to hit. June Kyle Schwarber is upon us, and most of the Starters have found their stuff.
Things are still not great. But a trend in the right direction. They did drop game 1 in Arizona, but it was not too surprising since it was a bullpen game. The bats still put up 8 runs at least, and we got treated to JT Realmuto hitting for a cycle. For a second we even thought they would win until the Umps pulled the carpet out from under us by showing the Kody Clemens HR was actually a foul ball.
With the season starting to turn around, it is a decent time to look over the team and assess what has gone well, and what has gone wrong. It has been a surprising season for the Phillies. And in that there are both good and bad surprises. Guys who have shown up early on to keep the Phillies afloat. But also troubling trends that the Phillies need to fix.
Here are 7 surprising stats from the first two months and change of this Phillies season:
