Castellanos Says The Phillies Brought Back ‘Dancing On My Own’
During the Phillies run to the World Series last season one song became synonymous with the team. ‘Dancing on My Own’ by Calum Scott. After every win, fans and players would sing it. It was the song blaring in the locker room when the Phillies celebrated each series victory. It became the most-played song in the Philadelphia area during that time. Everywhere you went in Philly, you heard it. But when the Phillies lost, it was assumed the song was retired.
The start of this season has not gone to plan though. While they are playing better lately, they are still under .500, and not currently in the playoffs. And so to try and change things up, they apparently brought Dancing On My Own back.
Nick Castellanos joined The Anthony Gargano Show earlier today and gave us a surprising reveal. During the recent series vs the Nationals, ‘Dancing On My Own‘ was added back to the playlist.
“We bought back the ‘Dancing On My Own’ Song too. We brought it back after our first win in Washington, and we got back to our 2022 playlist. All the guys are loving iut. it might sound stupid… I think it was just collective. The song just came on, and a couple of guys just said we should bring this back. I dont know why we ever stopped playing it. We beat Washington twice and we’ve been playing it after every win. It felt right last year, so we brought it back.”
Has the song helped return the magic from last season to the team? They are certainly playing better now. Whether or not that has anything to do with the song is hard to tell. But who knows? Baseball is a weird game that has so much to do with head space. Maybe just getting back into the mindset they had from that season was enough to jolt them out of the funk they opened the season in.
Whatever the change was, it seems to be working. Even in last night’s loss, they still put up 8 runs. If it was not a bullpen game, they may have won the game. And if playing Dancing On My Own is what it took to get them back in line, then so be it. All I want to see is winning baseball.
